I no longer drive, myself, but I do still own a car which I allow my boyfriend to use. As a result, I tend to be a backseat driver. But I feel this is my right, since I own the car and I pay insurance on it. If he wants to drive my car, then he has to take care of it. He likes to drive the car hard, but since I want it to last awhile, I prefer he be more gentle with it.
I also say something if I'm riding in a car with someone and the way they are driving makes me feel unsafe. I don't think that makes me a backseat driver, though. I think the driver has a responsibility to ensure the safety of his or her passengers and not take risks that compromise their safety.
However, backseat drivers who simply like to sit there and say 'turn left', 'the light is red, slow down', 'pass that car', etc can be very annoying. If it gets to the point where the person is being a major distraction, then I don't think you would be out of place to tell them that the next time they open their mouth to boss you around, they can get out and walk. And if they decide to test you, then follow through on that threat. I had to do that once before and that solved the problem.

I'm a backseat driver besides I'm 4'7 feet tall for my age I'm 29 years old. But anyway I'm a backseat driver because number 1 I sit on a booster seat because I'm too short for my age, number 2 I want to be safe, number 3 I love being chauffeured to get around, and number 4 I love to be treated like a princess.

Of course and I feel a lot safer as a backseat driver. If I'm driving thats the only time I sit in the front. So I'm a huge fan and big backseat driver

What is the proper way to handle a backseat driver? Get a motorcylce or move to a city where you can walk or use the subway to get where you want. Plus, it's good for the environment.

I do it when I think my opinion is needed. Usually from the front seat though.
