I liked to chew gum on occasion, but now that I have braces, I don't know if its okay or not. I tried googling it, but I only come up with some sites saying it's okay to chew gum and it helps your teeth move faster, while others say its bad and it'll pull the bracket off....

So, which is the truth? I know lots of people say its bad, but is it REALLY that bad? If its not recommended, do tell me....I don't want to wear these darn things more than I already have to XD

I had braces in fourth grade, and I kept forgetting to wear my retainers, so I got braces again in 6th grade. I chewed gum, and I still only wore my braces for about 5 months the second time. Just dont chew the "bubbleicious" or whatever its called because after a while, it gets too hard to chew, and it could make your braces loose. But chewing Orbit is a good choice.

No, it's not OK to chew sugarless gum with braces. Try using a gum like Freedent. It is made for people with dentures, but it won't stick to braces either, or pull off the brackets.

You can chew gum, but you have to be careful not to get it stuck to your brackets. Try chewing it with your back teeth.

i'm a chronic gum chewer and my dentist instructed me never to chew any gum that have any sugar in it. he said its ok to chew sugarless gum. (as a general rule any thing that gives you a sugar rush is bad for your teeth)

well i have braces, and i heard that you can chew gum as long as its sugarless. if you chew gum with a lot of sugar in it then you can get this weird stuff in between your braces and your teeth and the braces can fall off. i think its pretty gross haa.

It could get stuck in your braces and cause cavities. I say eat gummie bears or soft starburst candy...thats what i used to do:) Atleast if it gets stuck in your braces it will eventually disolve...but don't forget to brush
