ok i need to really give my cat a bath. i haven't given him a bath since he was like a few months old. he is now 3. he is mad dirty and smells. i tried many times too give him one, but he is so strong and scratches and bites. does anyone know a way to give him a bath without all the struggle? and if anyone knows a place where they give cats a bath for money, like a petshop or something like that. like a dog groomer. except for cats. THANK SO MUCH

OK there is a way. I am a daughter of a groomer. One thing that you can do is put a muzzle on the cat that will cover her eyes and prevent her from trying to kill you. Or you can take the easy way out ( which is what i would do) and take the cat to a groomer. I am sure there is one in your area. Pet smart does it. I know that. So good luck to you and to your cat.

Lots of groomers will bathe cats, but if the cat is really unruly it might be better to take it to the vet. The Vet will tranquilize the animal and it will be easier on everyone.
It takes a long time to get a cat used to being bathed. People with Show Cats will start bathing them pretty young, and do it regularly so there is less problem.

You didn't mention why your cat smells and is dirty. There are dry grooming powders that you just brush in and they even smell nice. Just brushing a cat regularly can keep his fur clean and will remove dander etc.
Cats don't do well getting a bath!
You can also use baby wipes or the kitty wipes that they sell in the pet sections to wipe the cat down.
If you feel you have to bathe the cat try having the water in a jug and pouring it over the cat rather that trying to put the cat into the water.
Good Luck

your vet should be able to.. sometimes petco groomers will but call before and see. You might be able to wipe him down with a wet towel... but to give a cat a bath they normally put them out, so it may cost a lot. If you still want to try yourself, hold the cat by the scruff (behind the head, right by the shoulder blades). when you do that the cats are normally under your control, but most will put there claws out and grab on to everything, so be careful. Your best off going to the vets and have them wash the cat.

They sell waterless wipes for cats--look kind of like baby wipes and you just rub the cat with it, first clean the surface hairs, then wipe in the opposite direction so the hair stands up and you can get down to the deeper dirt. You probably should clip his nails first so he can do as little damage as possible whether you decide to use wipes, give him a real water bath, or take him to a groomer.

Sometimes the vet will have an in-house tech that takes care of the grooming of cats. Best thing to do is call the vet and ask. Otherwise, they might recommend someone. What they do is mildly sedate the cat, which makes the process more painless.

If you use baby wipes, be careful. Most contain alcohol. That can make your cat sick, when it cleans its-self. You can brush baking soda into the cats coat to remove excess oil and dirt. This is a quicky remedy until you can get to a groomer. It will also absorb smells.

Benadryl (fed like you would a pill..lol..have fun) and a harness for the cat; Gardening gloves, thick old jacket for you.
Cat shampoo, 2 plastic cups and towels for bathroom.
Drug cat; put harness on him/her.
Take into bathroom. Lock door.
Put cat shampoo, open and accessable on tubs edge. Run bath (warm water). Put plastic cups in tub.
Put on gloves, then jacket (so the gloves will tuck into jacket).
Stop running bath.
Grab cat.
Say prayer.
Dunk cat holding onto securely fastened harness.
Refasten harness, securely this time, after you catch the cat in locked bathroom.
Curse, cuss, pray, scrub, repeat all steps as they come naturally all while avoiding cat's rampage to cut you to shredds (bet your glad you have those gardening gloves).
Using whichever cup has been shoved/splashed or is remotely reachable to re dunk the cat to get shampoo out.
The cat should be helping with the rinse cycle, as he/she is currently running figure eights in the tub - on the wall - in the tub, so cups may not be needed.
When you are bleeding, exhausted, drenched, and fed up; detangle your fingers from the cat's harness...drain tub...let cat out of bathroom...
the towels are for you to stop the bleeding and dry off...leave the cat alone..he/she can handle the rest of it by themselves.
attempt to re-kindel the relationship with your cat in, like two weeks, or when he/she doesn't hide under the couch/bed/chair everytime you walk into the room.
Good luck and God speed

First of all, you shouldn't have to give your cat a bath. If he is healthy, they clean themselves. I have two cats that are 6 and 3 and I've never given them a bath. They clean themselves.
However, if your cat is sick - one of the first things that you notice is that they stop cleaning themselves. So - maybe you should take your cat to the vet and make sure it is healthy.
If you still want to give the cat a bath, the main thing is to make sure they feel secure. I've heard you can get some kind of grid for them to hold onto - like a cookie/cake cooling rack or a shelf from the fridge. Put that in the sink or bathtub so that they have something to hold onto (other than you). Then wash them with a no tear formula shampoo - like baby shampoo. Make sure the water is tempid.
I've also seen a foaming waterless cat shampoo:

And also some pet wipes to clean your cat:

Good Luck!

tightly wrap your cat in a towel and wash him this way. He won't like it but at least you will be safe. Other recommendations include wearing welding gloves and many MANY layers of thick clothing like leather or "real" denim. Make sure you close the bathroom door and if you have a glass door for your shower close it too. If you have a web cam take pics or record it - funny as hell!
