Dying to get here and live in America, but then when they get here they do all of their regular customs from their own countries, and seperate themselves from the rest of Americans? It is as if they were living in their own country. Why not learn American culture and blend in like the rest of us?

Well, ask your parents or your grandparents why they came here!

There is nothing wrong with retaining your own heritage! They came here so they didn't have to be like you!

I believe this is an exact quote from the Declaration of Independence!

IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Many immigrants who come here legally DO learn about America or at least about the local culture (local to where they live here) and try to blend in. They still observe many of their customs because it is part of their culture and their right. Ideally they will find a balance between the two...assimilate into American society and our ways while remembering their heritage and customs.

I know several immigrants and what you said has no substance whatsoever with people I know personally.

Granted, you may know different people than I do but in that case, like others upstairs said, you need to define what "American culture" is to make your case.

Then again, maybe you are just following the "mob mentality" here, that is "rattling the cage" with nothing to back it up.

they shouldn't have to "blend in". Thats why people come here so they can practice any religion/culture they want with out consequence. That is what makes this country so great.

What is American culture? Whites, blacks, Asians, Hindi, etc. ALL have different cultures. If you can define what "American culture" is for me, then I can answer your question.

they do not come here to become one of us. they come here for the opprotunites and to earn/ provid efor their family! and saying that all immigrants just sepatate themselfs from the rest of us is like really racist and sterotypical! oh-em-gee!
