for me this would be fun and me and my husband would go but i would wonder about maybe if guest could not afforded this kind of dress they may have to rent a tux but if you know that most of your guest can afforded this request then go for it it will be fun and exciting!

Nope. If I cared about the people and they cared enough about me to invite me to their wedding, I'd go. If I couldn't afford a gown or a tailcoat, I would dress as formal as I could afford and show up anyway. They won't kick you out and you can still be a guest at their wedding to wish them well and enjoy the event! I'm sure they'll understand that not all of their guests will be able to follow their attire. I know people who haven't worn tuxes to black tie because they didn't have a tux and couldn't rent one. The dress code is really just a suggestion--unless they hire a bouncer or fashion police to keep you out if you're not in "white tie" apparel, then wear what you can afford to wear and enjoy the celebration!

Well, it wouldn't influence my decision personally (I always love an excuse to buy a gown!) but I know my fiance would want to put up a fight. Wearing a tuxedo at a black tie is one thing, but he would so NOT go for tails!

I love weddings and would go, but that's just me!
A nice white shirt and dress slacks, especially on a hot day, would be fine. You could throw a sport coat in the back seat ,just in case. Many people don't get all dressed up...even at a "formal" wedding.
Since this is often a 'girl thing', they get gussied up a bit.
There's lots of good food, drinks...remember the movie Wedding Crashers" ? :-)

Nope, it wouldn't sway me one way or the other. If I didn't have a gown, and couldn't afford one I'd come as close as I could.
If, however, I was invited and I didn't get a guest (given that I have a fiance, or even if I had a long-time boyfriend) THAT would influence the decision.

First, most people don't know what white tie means. So they'll probably ignore it and come dressed however they want.
I, however, do know what white tie means. And I know that I don't have white tie attire, nor can I afford to go out and buy it just for this wedding. And the same is true of my husband. So we wouldn't go.

White tie is absolutely the most formal you can get. Of course I would go - I never get to dress up!

No, it would not influence my decision. My decision would be influenced by my feelings towards the couple getting married. That is all that matters.

No, I love getting dressed up, so that would appeal to me. Kind of like a prom for adults
