For instance if her daughter is going to be in the area on Thurs. the mil makes her return on Fri. because she doesn't want to go on Thurs (no reason) and her daughter has to make the 3 hr. trip again the next day. Whatever plans the family makes, she argues and often my husband and his sister give in to her. She's 85.

I have one of those... the dreaded 'MIL from Hell'
If she's a real problem with your husband and his sis, it's up to them to fix it...
As for you, the best advice I can offer is 'small doses' and when there's friction, give her a hug and thank her for having such a wonderful son that you call 'Husband'

Don't socialize to much or let direct relatives only deal with her You have to nclude her at family gatherings but keep your distance Your husband should stand by you not his Mom
