I am a fourteen -year -old healthy girl. When I was younger, I would be sleeping and yet "awake" at the same time. I can see my room clearly, the computer. and such but would often hallucinate. BUT, Most of the time I would hear very, very scary things. Screams, whispers. i once started to shake, too. This happened to me when I was young and i still have it as TODAY. is it lucid dreaming or sleep paralysis. It' s scary! And I cannot go to the doctors my mom thinks it rubbish.

It's not rubbish. Like I told you in your astral projection question, you should use it for your benefit. Try what I told you. Look on those websites. Don't tell anyone else because of course they are going to think you are crazy if they've never experienced it. I just keep it to myself. Most people have SP and just think it's a dream and never talk about it. Most people, like you, know better. If people would just research they would know that it is a very real thing and has been scientifically studied and proven. Good luck to you!
and btw, no it's not lucid dreaming, but it's a very effective tool to use for becoming lucid.

Ya, i just read your question and I had the same thing when i was around your age. At first i didn't know what it was and it scared me when i couldn't move my body when i woke up. The strange thing is that i had the same experiences with seeing the room and my dreams was very vivid and extremely scarely. I know how you feel with the dreams and hallucination, but just know that you are dreaming and nothing more.

One day I went to the doctor to explain what i was having and he told me not to worry because i was having sleep paralysis. He told me that when everyone is in a deep sleep and dreaming they are in a state of paralysis and when they wake up the paralysis is gone (a protective mechanism so that you don't act on your dreams). To explain it simply is that our clock is off by a couple of seconds and when we wake up our mind wakes up like everybody else, but our body is still in that sleeping state. thus we can't move our bodies and open our eyes. And if you try hard enough you can get out of the sleep paralysis.

I think i started around your age and it gradually decreased as i grew older. Now i am 24 years old and i rarely get this anymore ( 1 in every 6 months). But when i do get these episodes they would last throughout the night. Falling asleep being in a state paralysis and continuing the cycle. i would be so tired that i couldn't get out of bed. Seems strange but when i do get out of the paralysis i would be so tired that i would fall back asleep and get another paralysis. But what worked for me was getting out of bed and reading something or watch tv for a little bit and go back to sleep. The dreams and hallucination was apart of my paralysis when i was your age (11-15), but the funny thing is that i only get the sleep paralysis without the dreams now.

I think you should go to the doctor if you can't breathe when your in that state, but i never heard anyone with that problem. This problem is so rare that not a lot of people know about it, thats why i didn't talk to people about it b/c they would think i was crazy. lol.

Anyways, if you are still unsure you should see a doctor, but i wouldn't worry about it too much b/c likely your out grow it.

If you have any other questions regarding this problem just ask me and I will try to answer them.

Try starting a journal of each such experience. Also search the library for similar stories, the internet is too dangerous to be involved with on this topic.
Such experiences are often temporary, don't worry about it unless you develop symptoms of a medical disorder. Then see a doctor.

I think it is a sleep disturbance that causes you to be awake but still dream. It is really nothing to worry about, but you are right, it is very scary. If it has been going on a long time, I wish your mother would take you to the doctor, but if she won't...maybe when you go for something else you can ask him or her about it.

Is there a school couselor you can speak to. If there is one who is helpful, perhaps the counselor could convince your mother that a doctor may be some help to you.

Good luck to you.

Images and sounds are common during sleep paralysis as well as the feeling of pressure on your body and shocking sensations. The shocking is said to be your brain checking to see if the body is asleep.

If it is scaring you then I advise you to read about sleep paralysis as you'll see what I said here.

It's just a dream. No one is there screaming and whispering so, of course, it's a dream.

Mom is right.
