ARMY! who ever says the marines go in first and the army comes in after to clean it up needs to go do some research. all the marines have are their pride and a kick *** comercial. u want good training? ask the marines where they go to schools such as airborne or lrps? yeah army bases. and they are not the first to go in. i was with Aco 1/30 INF in OIF 1 and we were the first cross the border. first to reach baghdad too. and look up the battle in Fallujah. u think that was all marines? 2/2 inf us army did most of it. not to mention the marines used all army resources such as our bradleys and mortar men. also during the iraq invasion 2 marine PLATOONS engaged each other. 30 marines on both sides and non of them were like "wait a sec, theyre wearing the same thing we are." and watch the news. " 8 marines on trial for executing iraqi civilians. 4 marines on trial for raping iraqi women." yea the army has some dumbasses in it too but thats mostly poges or reservesist. u want to go infantry and get some of the best triaing? join the army. ask for an airborne 11b contract. youll be jumping out of planes within 4 months in the best shape of your life. and when u get to airborne school and meet some of the marines there youll say to yourself " im so glad i didnt join the navy"

This is a question that you really need to figure out for yourself. I'm an Army recruiter in Philadelphia, but that doesn't mean I'm automatically going to go that way. Believe me, the biggest step is that you have committed to serving your country, irregardless of the branch. Just for that, I'll commend you. Anyways, you need to really look at both branches and see what they offer you. Not just immediate benefits, but long term ones and ones that will come int effect several years for now. If you are a hard charger, don't care anything about bonuses or college money, all you want is the respect and glory of it, go Marines. For some reason, it is associated more with the USMC and is almost automatic. However, Basic Training vs. Boot Camp aside, you will receive the same training and BETTER equipment as an 11 Banger in the Army. Also, you will receive more money in bonuses and college. Army's the biggest branch, we have the biggest budget. Also, it's a lot easier to branch out into different specialties. In the end though, Army or Marine, you'll be doing the same thing and going to the same places. What's important is you stepped up when most others hung their heads and looked the other way.
PS-kenshao can go choke himself. If you haven't served, you shouldn't even answer this question

If you want Infantry I would choose the Marines. Almost 100% of the people you will be working with are those who also want to be Infantry.
The service academy thing most likely wont happen, but you can try for it.
One thing you can do is become a good NCO in the Infantry and shoot for the MEPS program they will send you to a ROTC program, pay you as a full time active duty Marine, and let you go to college until you graduate from college, and USMC OCS. Its a good way for good Marines to get their college degree and become an officer.

SHORT AND TO THE POINT POST- Well if you have decided on Infantry, you need not think too much further into your answer. Self preservation is a Human Instinct. To preserve your life in a combat zone, training is paramount here. You will want the most training and you will want to know for sure the guy next to you is willing to lay down his life for you and vice versa. It is undisputable that the Marines have the hardest training(if you wish to dispute please know your facts, i.e. Anyone leaving another branch and entering the Marine Corps must attend boot camp and lose their rank) This is not the case for the Marines, we can enter any branch and not have to attend their boot camp. The brotherhood here in the corps is one that will be with you for life. "If your gonna do it, do it all the way, do you only wipe half of your ***?"

The marines because your last training excercise before becoming an offical marines is called the Cruciable. It is the most grueling of all training courses and just to complete that would be a honor. It is a 10 day exercise where you do task after task on MRE's that give less calories then you are expending. It is very hard to complete and if you do, you will be highly respected.

I am biased and reccomment the army because I was in the Army backin hte 1980's. I was also 11B10. It was peace time.
If you are under the age of 23, you can have the opportunity to enroll in USMA Prep program. This will increase your chance to receive acceptance at the Point.
Good Luck.

from what i hear the marines are always the guys who go in the frontline and the training is much harder so if you want action i would join the marines... the army are the guys that always go in after the battle and clean it up

Army- You'll be hanging with a bunch of semi-retards.
Marines- You'll be dead within a week.
