Fourteen is a good age to start wearing make up. You could always take her to a spa that has make up application lessons for teens for a day. That way, it'll be like a little rite of passage AND she'll be learning proper application techniques and color schemes for her skin tone.

Hello Layla. Your daughter is trying to create her own identity, and wearing makeup is one of those things especially at her age. Being a more traditional type person that I am, I would not allow her to have very much. The thing you want to instill is that it is okay to put some on to look real pretty and dolled up, but you don't want her to get so into it she's piling it on. There's already too many women who overdo it cosmetically. Inner beauty as well as personality is of far more value in this world. I would think some lip gloss and eye shadow or the like would be a decent first step until she's another year or so older. Share your feelings with her, and though she may point out how far other parents have allowed their kids to go... you are not following suit. Listening to her heart through the words spoken will let her see you care, so lay everything out on the table. Hope this helps.

layla,
I think you should. When you enter middle school you should be able to wear make up. Teach her how to put it on lightly. There's a makeup line called Astroglam. It's made for girls about her age. Make sure she never overloads. When you turn about 11 or 12 she should be able to wear it. Realize that she's growing up she's not a child any more. Sorry if that sounded offensive! But it's true! Don't you remember the young days? Oh, they were glorous! Find a light makeup product she should use. Ask her if she even wants to wear it! She probablly does doesn't she! What grade is she in? Uhh... about seventh? She should start. Tell her this; Remember that it can erritate your skin and cause breakouts. And; You'll be wearing this for the rest of your life so if you want to start now you can. (if you say yes) I hope you make the right choice! Any more questions? E=mail me!

Yes let her wear makeup. Let her and her friends come over for a makeup party. There is nothing wrong in wanting to look good.Let her experiment with makeup. It's a lot better than experimenting with drugs. Celebrate the art of her wanting to look like a woman. Your little girl is growing up. Putting too many restrictions on a girl her age is just as bad as not putting enough. Save the restrictions for the important things. Share things with her and establish communication and openess. Save the restrictions for the things that matter most.

Yes, I think 14 is an acceptable age to wear makeup. If you're concerned about how your daughter will wear her makeup, don't worry. Let her experiment and decide what she likes. You can give her tips and show her how to properly take care of her skin.

Yes, but within reason. Do an inspection of her face before she leaves the house in the morning. If you are really nervous you might not let her wear certain types of makeup.

Sure, just make sure she doesn't go overboard. Most girls start wearing makeup around her age, and to be honest, most females do benefit from at least a little makeup. Give her some pointers if you're good with makeup.

Hi layla.......... i just recently had the same problem with my 14 year old....... i discovered she was wearing eyeliner and mascara to school, but packed on!!!!!! I had a go at her to begin with, but she was sharing her friends makeup so i thought it was better getting her own in case of picking up infections. I got her the makeup and showed her how to put it on sparingly instead of thick! she now wears eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and a neutral colour lip gloss......... must admit her school photos for this year are the best photos i've ever seen of her................ if you decide to get her makeup just get her the neutral colours, not the BRIGHT larey colours;O)
All the best :O)

Whew, I'm glad I have boys! LOL
Seriously... I think you should show her how to apply it tastefully... Share the bonding experience...
I know it seems unrelated but my fondest memory is teaching my boys how to shave properly... It was fun and a 'right of passage' of sorts...
Besides, as a father of 6, I DO know the fastest way to get a teen to do something is tell them NOT to!

Just teach her that a little bit goes a long way. Show her that a little blush and mascara makes you look pretty...she's too young to go all out.
