My boyfriend -- my FIRST boyfriend! -- (yes, I'm a senior in high school and he's my first boyfriend) is Catholic, and I'm Episcopalian, which is pretty much as Catholic as you can get without actually BEING Catholic, but because my boyfriend is Catholic, he doesn't believe my denomination to be "the true denomination". He doesn't really believe it, but lately he's been coming to my Bible Study which is pretty much nondenominational, but it's led by a family of Baptists and all of the other people that go there range from Church of Christ to Mormon. I don't know if I'm sort of accidentally pressuring my boyfriend into coming to my Bible Study, and I don't want my boyfriend coming if he doesn't really WANT to be coming... y'know?

So... anywho, my question is: should I talk to my boyfriend about the Bible Study thing, or let it be, even though it might be making him uncomfortable to be there with all of us "heathens"?

Just a point of information for you: We, as Episcopalians, don't believe that our denomination is the "one and true denomination", either.

Go to Bible study, tell your bf he is welcome to come, or not, that it is totally up to him. If one week he doesn't go, the next week don't say anything and just go as you would, and if he wants to go, he'll ask you. Don't put any pressure.

You'll probably have other bf before marriage, but it wouldn't hurt for you to find out more about the Roman Catholic Church, the similarities and differences to your church. You may need to make a choice someday about converting if you decide to marry a Roman Catholic.

Peace of the Lord be unto you.

Ask him what he thinks about your Bible study so far. I am somewhat curious as to how you have a non-denominational Bible study in an Episcopalian Church.

One more thing, ask him if he believes in the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. If he doesn't, he might not be so Catholic after all. God bless you and keep you both growing in Christ.

As a former protestant, now Catholic, I'd ask that you respect your boyfriend's faith as a Catholic. If he is unfamiliar with his faith, encourage him to study - read the catechism, the bible, and so forth. This is the most loving thing you can do for him. Bible study is important, but it must be done with the direction of the Church. If anything, let him go to Mass (Catholic Mass, and go with him if you like). The Mass is more important than any of us could ever know.

God bless.

You need to work this out before you get married, but you guy are so close in what you believe that it really should be simple. I wouldn't sweat it if he isn't saying anything.

Ask him what he thought about the lesson the next time. That will give him an opening without saying that you think he should have a problem. But come on, if you can't work out tiny differences like that you might as well give up boys.

I think you should try talking to him about what was discussed in the Bible study. As long as he is attending with an open heart, he might learn something & hopefully he will grow closer to God & gain a better understanding of God's word. At least I would think that it would encourage him to study the Bible more & THAT HAS to be a good thing! (even if he's just trying to prove himself right)

You need to pressure your boyfriend to come if he dosen't do so willingly. Jesus is the path. Even if its against his will, it is for his own good. Certainly you see this.

Go ahead. He might enjoy it. And the Baptists might actually learn something from him!
