Smooth, I'm guessing you never tapped/wrapped your hand before starting. The purpose of applying the boxer's wrap is to protect your MCP joints (the big knuckles) and all the ligaments in your hand including the wrist. These are what could have been damaged.
Try extending your fingers and flexing them. If it's just one hand that's injured then you can compare it with the healthy hand. Is it swollen? Does it look disfigured?
The most positive injury is the chance that you may have just popped your phalanges out of their sockets, in this case, if you don't want to go to the doctor's you can try and crack your knuckles like a pianist.

P.R.I.C.E. (protect, rest, ice, compress, elevate)
For an acute injury, which you have, apply a bag of ice over the injured areas with a medium (ie: thin towel) for 15-20 minutes 3-5 times a day with at least 2 hours in between application for the first 72 hours after the incident. This will decrease any inflammation and slow down metabolism, preventing further cell death. Since this is a rather complicated area and I'm assuming you don't know how to properly wrap your hand, I suggest not to compress it. After 3 days, start adding heat.

One time I wrapped a shirt around my hand and punched a change machine (turns dollars into quarters). My friend was kicking it with his foot, trying to make quarters fall out. I thought he was making too much noise and we were going to get in trouble so I punched it a few times with my fist and we called it quits.
Later that day my hand began to hurt and then it swelled up. The next day I couldn't do anything with that hand. And I mean nothing.
I had a greenstick fracture. There are three basic types of fractures:
Greenstick; when the bone does not actually separate into two parts but splits along its length.

Simple fracture; when the bone is separated into two distinct parts.

Compound fracture; when the bone has two or more distinct breaks and/or breaks though the surrounding tissue.

You said your knuckle(s) look shorter? See a doctor. You could have a crushed bone and that's a whole new category. Take care of your hands so that they can take care of you.

Go see a doctor and get an X-ray

Might be broken (might not)

Meanwhile - Rest Ice Compression Elevation

Paracetamol (acetaminophen)

Boxer's fracture is usually 5th metacarpal (little finger knuckle) but I guess you could do the 4th (ring finger knuckle). The fact that the knuckle is sunken is suggestive of a fracture, but not diagnostic.

Tape it to your ring finger. That is probably all a doctor will do.
