I am 13. I am 6' tall and weigh about 120. I'm not on my death bed or anything but I am under weight and would like to have some muscle. I work out quite a bit, try to eat a lot (i have a smallish appetite), and i take protien shakes every once and awhile. I don't want to be fat. I want to be buff. I'm sick of being the scrawny tall kid. i heard that eating a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich before i go to bed will help.

you have a lot of growing to do...talk to someone in a GNC vitamin store and they will make sure you are drinking the right shakes. Other than that, you are going to have to work out at the gym with weights to build the muscle. If you just eat the shakes and don't work out you'll gain fat.

PB&J is not a good idea. The only way to put on muscle is to exercise. Remember, light weight + high reps = muscle tone. High weight + low reps = muscle mass. Max out the weight you execise with, even if it means you can only do 5 or 6 reps at a time. You can work on your tone once you have acquired the mass. And keep your protein intake up, since this is what the body uses to make muscle - PB&J has too much fat and sugar.

Eat 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches mid-morning, 2 mid-afternoon and 2 before you go to bed. I also recommend that you take a weight gainer. I use MASSTECH. It's made by MUSCLETECH. If you want low prices you can order a free catalog of supplements from PROSOURCE.COM
Don't rely on supplements alone. Make sure you take in protein in as many forms as possible: eggs, beef, chicken, fish and nuts. Protein is the most basic nutrient for building muscle and you need alot of it if you want to gain muscle. Also since you workout often you need to make sure to take a multivitamin/mineral supplement because strenuous workouts drain your body of many necessary nutrients.

Read "THE NEW ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MODERN BODYBUILDING" by Arnold Schwarzenegger. It has everything you need to know about everything from the basic mass building exercises to how to eat.

To gain weight you have to eat more calories than you burn. When adding calories, try to stay away from adding too much fat. While you can get fat from eating carbohydrates or protein, your body likes to use carbohydrates as fuel more than fat. To gain muscle, in addition to eating more you have to stimulate your muscles enough through resistance training that while they recover, they'll get bigger and stronger. To get an efficient workout you might want to join a gym if you aren't already a member.

Good luck! Be aware that since you are still 13, your body(bones, muscles, etc.) is still growing and weight training could stunt your growth. I would find someone at the gym, preferably a professional trainer who works there, and ask them what you can do to build muscle safely. Good luck and be safe!
