The Levi "Original Jeans" campaign of the mid 80's to mid 90's was pretty unbelievable, keeping 501's fresh/hip/new year after year during that period. Incredible work.

Apple's "Think Different" was also amazing. It featured contemporary and historic figures (Einstein, MLK Jr., Jerry Seinfeld, Ted Turner) -- without the product. The idea was that people who use Apple computers are different; they are smart, creative. By choosing Apple, they are putting themselves in the 'visionary' category rather than the 'lemming' category.

Two other print-based favorite campaigns are Absolute vodka and "got milk". Campaigns with that much staying power says something.

Doyle Dane and Bernback's 1962 ad campaign for a new German car by Volkswagen called the Beetle. Check on the net for details. But they blew everyone away with their "thnk small" campaign.

Sunny Delight's initial TV ad campaign in the UK back in the late1990's was so successful it actually knocked Coca Cola off the top spot and became the country's top selling drink for several months!

When Coca-Cola came out with "New Coke" (a new formula for the soft drink) in April, 1985, and then switched back to Coca-Cola Classic (the original formula) in June, 1985. Their sales skyrocketed.

this is dull but true, an advertising exec from Budweiser saw that nobody could tell what lagers people drank cos they would pour their bottle into a glass at the bar and then walk to a table. they decided from then to make their beer bottles bigger than a glass full so that everyone could see that they were drinking bud as they carried their drinks to their table. they then became the biggest drinks manufacturer in the world.
