Often I conduct my own experiments on the cats if I know they are going to die soon and we are finished with them. I deal mostly with neurology so I like to see how the cat reacts when I remove certain pieces of it's brain. I also just like to have fun by sticking electrodes in the cat's brain and observing how different types of shocks affect their muscles. Tell me is there anything wrong with this? It shouldn't matter if the cat is going to die anyway?

Thats no excuse. So if i knew you were about to die, does that give me the right to put you through a lot of pain? There are reasons why we don't do this to humans, although a lot of people here would probably like to do it to you. With all the modern technology, is there really any need to put any living thing through such barbaric experiments? I understand the importance of research but from what you have described, you could do all of it with the cats under anaesthetic.

As a confirmed cat lover, this is something I don't think I could do. However, if your research is conducted under directions, looking for specific reactions to certain stimuli or lack of something I see no problem. Rather do the research on animals than humans. However, if you are having "fun" at the cat's expense and causing it pain, you should re-think your line of work. I also think if your boss knew how much "fun" you were having it would come to a halt in a hurry. Good think I don't know where you work or I'd report you! (I can't see what this has to do with genetics anyway!)

Dr Josef Mengele I presume! I guess you are just trying to shake up a hornet's nest. First if you were a medical professional you wouldn't do painfull things just "to see how the cat reacts". You would be testing a specific region of the brain for a specific outcome. If you continue in these unscientific approaches to things you need to find another profession.....

Sad sidebar on the Mengle reference...Even though he was a mad man and did horrible things, the powers that won the war didn't destroy his data.......They studied it.

Now if the question is should animals be used for testing. That's not an easy one to answer...To do harm to anything just to see if a perfume will last longer, or to see if something can keep that new car smell longer is just plain sick and pointless.
On the other hand if my child has a life or death choice on a untested drug..........Go get the monkey!!!!!!!!!!

You do these things to it when it's alive and concious. Removing parts of an animals brain while it's awake is tourturous, painful, and immoral. It is dying, but you are still hurting it, and the animal has feelings too. What you are doing is evil, and if you got found out, you could be sent to prison for conducting cruel experiments without painkillers. That is soo mean, I am disgusted.

So what happens when you stick an electrode between the brain stem and cerebellum? I don't know becuase I am not a monster or Dr. Frankenstein.

There's no way you work in a neuro lab.You don't have the brains for it(no pun intended). If you do and the lab techs and vet at the facility let you get away with crap like that then the whole facility needs to be shut down.

no i dont agree at all, your "research" that you do privately has no point an im sure causes unessasary pain for no reason. am im sure whatever lab you work at if they were aware of what you do you would be fired. because they have to keep tight with procedures due to peta an other animal rights people. if you get cancer an are weak it would be like someone comeing up to you an pokeing you in the eye with a needle to see if your eye would pop. just because your going to die anyway

Very interesting. If you sit at home and live with your parents and dont work then I would think you could come up with a better lie then that.Like maybe tell us you got a cool job today that pays $25.00 a hour. Now that would be a very cool lie.The lie you just told us stinks.

There should be some reason and structure to your experiments, otherwise they have no purpose other than your own curiousity and therefore have no reason to be done as they add nothing to our knowlege of cats. Frankly, it seems wrong, but you are right, they are going to die, but they aren't dying with any sense of comfort and dignity. Generally lab animals are treated very nicely even though things are done to them that may cause discomfort or end their lives, but these things have a purpose. Consider organizing an experiment if you wish to continue with your "fun."
