Dogs are -green color blind, They can see other colors, just not with the same intensity that humans see colors.
Here's a link that both discusses and shows what colors look like to dogs and yes, it was written by a vet.

Yes they are. The source lies in the definition of color blindness. If you are colorblind you can not only see in shades of gray (this is very very uncommon) but you can see many colors, just less as somebody with normal vision.
Dogs have a dichromatic vision and what they see can be compared to humans who are suffering from red-green color blindness.

Yes. We know because they can not tell the difference between two things that are different colors, but the same brightness. Maybe.
See the link above for information about how these tests are carried out. It's quite interesting and is not abusive in any way, it's fun for the dog.

Yes dogs ARE color blind, they see in two colors instead of three exactly the same as some color blind people. The difference between a dogs eyes and ours is that a dog has fewer cones (collect color) and more rods (collect light) so a dog sees colors about like a color blind person, and sees at night about like a person using night vision goggles.
We see "VIBGYOR" (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red)
dogs see "VIBYYYR" (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, and Red). The colors Green, Yellow, and Orange all look alike to a dog

They have less cones in ther eyes, which means the color they see is dull. The only color scientists specualte they can see is red, which may appear as a dull pink to them. But color isn't important to them, just like an acute sense of smell isn't important to us.
We know because we take their eyes out and look at amounts of rods and cones...plus if they don't need color, they won't have color.

no, check the link, explains everything. great site. They can see more than just black, white, and shades of gray. They can see yellow, red, and blue. All though they cannot tell the difference between certain colors such as green and yellow.

Dogs are not completly color blind. They can see some color.
like my dog always goes for orange toys, and he leaves the blue toys alone. that kind of proves that they can see some color.
