They didn't have last names then as someone has said. They used to call her Mary of Nazareth because she came from Nazareth but that is not her last name. They also call her Mary the Queen but that is because she is the queen of heaven and earth. That is not her last name though. They also call her Mary Mediatrix of all grace. They also call her Mary conceived without sin. Mary Immaculate. Also Blessed Mary ever virgin, etc.

so if they didn't have last names then, as people say, how did they conduct the census that is mentioned in the nativity story? there would have been like 450 marys of nazareth.
maybe "virgin" is her first name and "mary" is her last name.
whatever.
like good ol' gary says, "sheesh."

She didn't have one. Back then, people didn't have last names. That's why Jesus was always "Jesus of Nazareth". Mary was probably "Mary of Nazareth".
