She is 15 and she'll be going into high school next year. Unfortunately she is in a "i'm fat and ugly, my but is big" stage of puberty. That had quite an effect on her personality. Before she was very livley and energetic, now she became more shy , introverted person with big doubts about herself. That has affected me too in my early teen years (I'm 19 now) and it wasn't pleasant at all. How to help her , influence her indirectly in some way that she opens up again, but I don't wanna force her.

i was in a funk like that, but since im the oldest, i had to fix it myself. i just dressed in clothes that made me feel comfortable, and i was friendly and extroverted- it worked! within 2 months, i was dating a junior who totally adored me. that totally helped my self esteem. It didn't work out, but apparently the entire time i was dating him, one of my best friends also had a thing for me. He liked me for the very reason that i was insecure- my big butt! That was over a year ago, and we've been together ever since. having a boyfriend that adores her for who she is will totally boost her confidence. guys often like things that girls think are unattractive, like the big butt thing. good luck!

Be there for her! If you tell her that it will eventually be okay, she will most likely not believe you (would YOU have believed you at age 15?). Girls go through a lot of insecurity issues at that age (as I'm sure boys do as well). The best thing for you to do is listen to her when she has problems and try to help her out. Share some embarrassing stories from your own high school days to make her feel better. Be a good big brother.

Is your sister anorexic, bulimic, or otherwise afflicted with a eating disorder? Does she have body dismorphic disorder? Go online and find out some info.

Then again it could just be a phase. All girls feel self-conscious about their looks and most girls don't develop any serious issues.
