1988 Jeep Cherokee

Does anyone having true experience with jeeps & jeep issues know of an online site that will show how I can install a fuel pump outside of a 1988 cherokee gas tank?

"http://jeephorizons.com/tech" 's info is for newer models only.

Thanks

Question was clarified
...you can "disable" it by pulling the relay or fuse.

If your entertaining the idea of adding a external pump then you would would have to drop the gas tank and make numerous changes to the in tank pump/pickup/pressure regulator assembly.

I did not find any detailed web site on how to add a external pump.
You can browse Summitt Racing for pumps and hook up is nothing more than a ground wire and hot wire to your ignition switch. You of course have to cut the fuel line as close to the tank as possible and splice in the pump which you mount to the frame.
Again, why do this? Its dangerous.

You Cant bypass it and still use the same fuel lines . you can change the pump without dropping the tank (As Pump Goes in the side Not the top. You need less than 1/4 tank of gas to open without getting a gas bath. Its tight in there but it be done)
A Re manufactured Fuel pump for a 4.0 l isn't to pricy And 2.5's are cheaper (you can get a used 1 from the Wrecker too)
I recommend NEW And pick up a New Filter screen, Lock ring & Gasket. Change your filter too.
You Should be good to go.

There used to be a way to hardwire the fuel pump for testing purposes, but not bypass it. If you want to bypass it, simply pull the fuse/relay as someone already stated.
