There is a huge difference even in the cheaper foods as far as how fattening they are. Anything with whole grain is better as well as fruit. Fruit and veggies can be expensive, but if you cut out any unneeded stuff from your list, then you should be able to at least afford some of the better stuff. If nothing else, remember, if you eat things as naturally as they come as possible you will be so much healthier for it. Try the "eat like a cave man diet". I did that a couple of summers ago and lost about 25 lbs the first month. I was also dilegent about walking 2,4,or6 miles every day too. What I mean by the cave man diet is this: I ate lean meat grilled or cooked only in Pam cooking spray. Luckily, I lived with a hunter and we depended on deer meat to live on, so it was as healthy as red meat gets. I also ate sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, fresh carrotts, apples, nuts, grapes, oranges, and what ever else I could find that was natural. I ate regular oatmeal. The veggies I ate were either frozen or from the garden. It just depends on how much work you can put into it and how creative you can be. I even used to have a big flower pot with a tomato plant growing in it when I lived in an apartment and did not have any space for a garden. It is always better to stay away from things like: peas, potatoes, corn, and other starchy or sugary things. Good luck. I hope I helped you at least a little bit.

I am thinking she means when you have 50 dollars to get you through the week and feed yourself and two kids that buying a pound of hamburger is less expensive at the moment than buying the ingredients for a salad. And when you are feeding a family on a tight budget your only choice is to eat what you fix for them. 1lb hamburger 2.19, 1 can tomato sauce .99, 1 box spagetti 1.19 =dinner for 4 for 5 bucks. Adding a salad to that would only be a few dollars more but to some that few dollars could go towards another meal. Maybe not the best meal but your kids wont go hungry.
Honey, I suggest you just get up and walk. I lost 40 lbs last year alone by just walking and not changing a thing. Once I stopped losing, I changed a few habits. Nothing major. Small cheeseburger if I really was craving a burger, take sugar out of your diet (Splenda is easy to get used to) quit drinking soda, drink lots of water (That alone will make you feel great) and walk more. There are plenty of free ways to get fit. Dont get down on yourself. Just try and if you trip up, just start over.

Clean your fridge. Take out fatty dressings, old fast food, and just the plain bad stuff.
Clean your cupboard. Take out things like canned: soups, pastas, etc.
Watch what you eat. Try to eat salads, grilled chicken, grilled salmon. Dont eat fried things or fast food. If you're running late and HAVE to eat fast food buy a salad and DON'T go for the fat free dressing. why? becuase your body needs fats and plus how much healthier can you get...you're eating a salad! You can also get a burger, no mayo please, One patty, one slice of cheese...yum.
Fries? Small.
Drink? Water or tea. No more soda!
Once in a while it may be okay. If you want to stick to the no fast food....make a wrap! Grilled chicken (or 3 slices of cold cuts), salad leaves, some dressing on a wrap ....accompanied with a tea or water...yummy yummy!
And if you're wondering why guys lose weight faster than girls its becuase they have more muscles.
Read the labels. If calories are higher than 200-250g, if there's a lot of sodium, if sugars are higher than 20g....DON'T EAT!
But remember it also matters the amount of food you eat.
Don't eat TOO much and don't eat TOO little.
Eat slowly, when you eat slowly (and in small portions) you give time for you brian to signal your body that you're full. Once you feel full STOP! Snack anyone? Yogurt, fruit, a small scoop of ice-cream or small bowl of cereal.
Excersise!
Get a pedometer. At least walk 6,000 stpes wich equals to about 3 miles. Once you achieve your goal of 3 miles move up. If you want join a gym or buy cardio workout tapes. Why not try yoga? But don't strain yourself, if you feel uncomfortable STOP!
Before you do anything ask a doctor of how many calories you should be getting per day. Its different for everyone. And once you recieve that info start from there!
Hopefully this will help. :D
(sorry for incorrect spelling and if anythings missing.)

I know it doesn't make much sense and it adds to the obesity problem the U.S. is having, but, healthier food is more pricey. But to loose weight, start by decreasing portion size. Going to McDonald's can be nice and cheap. But get a snack wrap or salad. Plus, cut out caffeine. Especially pop. There are a lot of ideas that aren't pricey. Often grocery stores have sales on Lean Cuisines. Take a good look at the kinds of snacks you eat and portion sizes. Most restaurant portions are actually about three to four times a normal portion size. Example...one portion size of meat is 3 oz (the size of your fist) Hope this helps. Start walking or other light exercise to get started and boost energy.

A little over a year ago I started my own diet and did very well.. I lost about 30lbs in about 45 days.... Heres what I did.... Drank O.J in the AM.. Walked 1 mile before work and every 5 mins I changed my pace.. I ate 6 small meals a day LUNCH was my big meal.. I ate lots of veggies mostly CAN veggies, because its easy and CHEAP.. I drank about 60-80 oz. of water a day.. I cut out all the garbage. Then at night after work i walked another mile or more , same deal .. changing pace every 5 mins. and I used a body ball I bought at walmart for $10 and did those exersizes they had on a chart that came with the ball. I also worked with 10lb dumbells... Just one week of it you'll notice results.. I also did what everyone says you shouldnt do, I weighed in every morning after I woke up and used the bathroom.. If I fluctuated a pound or so it would make me work harder.. and finally once a week I allowed myself a treat being a small piece of cake or a candy bar etc.. It truely works, at least it did for me..... I was 180 and went down to 150... Ive just started it again myself yesterday..... I need to get down to 130..... Mind you I kept the weight of for a little over a year.. Ive put on 8lbs since I stopped about 8mos ago, which isnt bad.... seeing I went back to my old eating habits long ago... I wish you luck!

I'm a vegan who eats mostly whole foods and I refuse to pay any more than necessary for anything. You've got to look at what you're buying and the cost. A one pound bag of potato chips (or what I like to call mutulated, ruined potatoes turned into grease) is about $2.50-$3. (I only know this because I see them on the end caps at grocery stores. The brand my in-laws buy has a $3 stamp on the the one pound bag.) A five pound bag of potatoes, pure unadulturated, unmutaled potatoe, is about $3. Not only can one get more meals/servings from the real potatoes, but they're also much healthier. Boxed rice mixes are $1 on sale. Maybe four meals for one out of that, if you do leftovers. A bag of brown rice, for a dollar on sale, or less than $1.50 regular price yeilds many meals. Canned beans for protein and other good stuff, $.50 on sale. Meat, I have no clue, but I happened to look at a large meat sign recently at the grocery and thought it was way expensive. I'm the type of person who can go to the grocery store and get about $30 worth of stuff for less than ten. Also, using coupons (especially if they double) with sale prices helps greatly. The last time I bought pasta (whole wheat) I got three boxes for $1. I had a coupon for $1 off of three and the $1 doubled to two dollars. We had just gotten a couple of boxes of store brand whole wheat pasta the week before for $.99, regular price, but usually a good price anyway. Three boxes for $, though, I couldn't pass up. Since we have pasta and tomato sauce ($1 either on sale at the grocery store or bought at the Dollar Tree), frequently, I knew it was an especially good buy. We don't put meat or cheese in our pasta (well, my husband does on occasion, but just in his bowl) partially because I'm vegan and partially because it's more money. Although, we do steam veggies to go with it, but half a pound of fozen veggies (or even a whole pound), is still cheaper than a pound of meat. (And God knows what the poor cow went through before the slaughter.) We also buy frozen veggies for $1 a 16 oz bag. I prefer frozen to "fresh' or canned because I think they are healthier. They don't get the extra sodium that canned gets and they don't sit around for who knows how long after picking. Generally, they're frozen soon after being picked.
Anyway, this is much of what we do, and I hope I've been of some help.

It's been my experience that fattening foods are normally more expensive in the supermarket than fruits and vagetables. Perhaps your referring to "eating out". It's certainly true that fast food drive thru's are cheaper than restaurant eating.
I guess my advice would be to steer clear of fast food and start preparing meals and snacks at home. Also, try gardening. It isn't difficult and you could view it as a form of exercise. You'll have fresh, healthy, low fat food for pennies!
Good luck!

This program is designed for a target weight loss of 5-6 Kgs. per week. It will also improve your attitude and emotions because of its systematic cleansing effects. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. Repeat the program as often as you like, however, it is suggested that you rest for three days before every repetition.
You have your system under control now and it will thank you for all the purging and cleansing you just gave it. Even more than a diet program it is good to follow this diet once in a while to clean your digestive system and remove toxic substances that have a accumulated in the system.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
The most important element of the program is the 10 tall glasses of water a day. You can also flavour the water will some lemon to make the drink easier. While on the program, take only black coffee and never more than one teaspoon of oil. Preferably do not use oil because the high calorific content. No fruit juices before day seven.
Here is what happens to you body while you are on this program and how and why it works.
Day 1: You are preparing your system for the upcoming program. Your only source of nutrition is fresh fruits. Fruits are natureâ€â¢s perfect food. They provide everything you can possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.
Day 2: Starts with a fix complex carbohydrates in the form of a boiled potato. This is taken in the form of a boiled potato and taken in the morning to provide energy and balance. The rest of the day too consists of vegetables which are virtually calories free and provide essential nutrients and fibre.
Day 3: Eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from fruits. Your system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will have cravings, which should start to diminish by day four.
Day 4: Bananas and milk. You are in for a surprise. You probably will not be able to eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there fore the potassium you have lost and the sodium you may have missed the last three days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets and you will be surprised at how easy this day will go.
Day 5: Rice and tomatoes. The rice is for the carbohydrates and the tomatoes are for the digestion and the fibre. Lots of water purifies your system. You should notice colourless urine today. Do not feel you have to eat one cup rice, you may eat less. But you may eat six tomatoes.
Day 6: It is similar to five. Vitamins and fibre from the vegetables and carbohydrates from the rice. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be a noticeable difference in the way you look today compared to day one.
Day 7: You may celebrate with champagne. You may also have white wine instead of champagne, but in al practical programs, and in all surveys done to measure the success of the program, General Motors employees have always preferred champagne to white wine.
Motor than one cup of coffee with milk is especially forbidden. Milk and oil add empty calories to your diet. Avid coffee lovers can console themselves with black coffee. However, after the first week, it will help your digestion and set your stomach. The key think to remeb4er is that if you are hungry at any time, then you are not following the diet correctly. Almost all people give up the diet when they are hungry because of dieting. The secret of this program is that you should never hungry. If it is a vegetable day, eat so much vegetables so that you are never hungry. If it is a fruits day, eat so much fruits that you are never hungry
it works
all the best

Huh? Last time I looked buying veggies and fruit was cheaper than spending money on fast food every day.
Keep it simple, stock up on heaps of fresh veggies, lean meats, low fat dairy, complex carbs. Most of these things are staples, nothing flash, so should be relatively cheap.
