If you have a floppy eared dog (spaniels, labs, goldens , etc.) I would ask a groomer or vet to teach you how to clean its ears. Floppy eared dogs can't get air as well into their ears, so they have the possibility of ending up with a bacterial infection. If you dogs ear are more like a German Shepard, or cattle dog, where they stick up, then you don't have a lot to worry about. Just keep an eye on them, you would know if something is wrong.

If they have black stuff or smell funny. This could be an early sign of ear mites or an infection. If your dogs ear's drop like a Lab for example then they will need more cleaning then dog's with ears that stand up.

yes if and when they get dirty they will need cleaned just use a wash cloth with warm water no soap and wipe them out gently careful not to go to deep and injure the ear go to your local vet and he will more than likely show you how to do it free of charge hope this helps oh yeah never use Q-tips you could go in too far or the dog could suddenly jump or jerk and jab the Q-tip in the ear

Get someone to hold him for you and gently clean his ears with a mixture of 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 4 parts rubbing alcohol. Then make sure you dry them really well afterwards.

You should clean your puppys ears often with a moist cotten ball or paper towel. It should not have a bad odor and if it does then consult a vet.

i usually do it everytime i bathe my puppies. With cotton buds and a ear cleaner lotion i just do the outside and a tiny bit of the inside where i can see dirt. Be very gentle or you might harm your pup.
