Before you start yelling at me...yes I am a Christain, but the bible says in 2 Chronicles 16:9 "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
i will explain this...If our country is going down the tubes we must take personal responsibility because we are responsible toheal wounds and light the way. we as believers must pray " Lord, have we as a nation failing? Have we been playing not praying? Forgive us" Anyone can curse the darkness of our society. We must be the lights praying for healing rather than complaining what the Godless are doing

yes the Godless can try but it is really a futile effort if you do not rely on God because if you have seen our country...it is extremely immoral

yes it is the immoral people of our society who are really ruining it, but they do not know any better...it is our job as Christians to lead the way

And believe or not I have heard a few, perishingly few fundamentalist pastors make that very point. But I think their exegesis is faulty.
That promise was made to Israel whose covenant was for land, not for redemption through Christ's blood. So a promise to heal land that God had promised to them in covenant with Abraham is not legitimately applied to the non-Jewish secular state of the United States, with whom God has made no covenant whatever. The Old Covenant promise was for what was then a theocracy, not a democracy.
But your point is well taken since Christians are the runaway majority of the population and nearly the totality of elected officials (or so they themselves claim). Nevertheless, I think this is one of those areas where if the promise fails, the apologists can legitimately claim the promise was for the Jews not Christians, and was for the promised land, not for the US.
And Laptop needs to remember that Christians are 97% of America and atheists and agnostics less than three. I've been a soldier, a cop, a pastor, a father, a husband, and I've lived a moral life all my life, even more so as an atheist because I embrace my ethics and morality as my own and not imposed by an imaginary god. I know without checking that I am far more moral, compassionate and ethical than some hate monger who posts that kind of comment.

well, you didn't prove that it is the Christian's fault that American is going down the tubes. However, seeing that most Americans are some denomination of Christianity, i understand your point.
I like your quote. it is not something that i had considered before. you are certainly right about the humbling thing. we probably should take a little more responsibility than we do.

Elect a different government. The people you elect to represent your beliefs and convictions are the ones to blame. You have the power to change it. Pray all you want, but if the government doesn't want it to happen, it won't.

being a believer, we need to stand together and elect people who live Gods standards not the worlds standards. God needs to be at the center of the goverment not on the sidelines.

I've known that for quite awhile to be honest with you. But it's the Fundamentalist/Evangelical Conservative type Christians who are to blame.

Yes we need to be praying and fasting.
Christians need to follow Jesus (not groups and denominations). Jesus is the only way...
The gospel more then ever needs to be preached.
