were can you get discounted materials if you decided to just try to figure it out on your own. i want to make my own furiture. chairs, stools, chests, beds etc. but will it end up costing the same as just buying it after paying for your material, wood, varnish, springs, nails, stain etc? so this is kinda a 2 in 1 question... school and cost ...

Some community colleges offer upholstery classes in my area NC but we used to be the furniture capitol of the world. You can get materials from a furniture supplier (supply store) but you may have to order from them. Many have catalogs to order. The materials are expensive unless you are buying large quantities. You might want to consider going in to "re-upholstery" Then you just need to find the fabrics.
