I have had him for 3 months now. He was Previously tied to a very short lead. I have a chain link fenced in yard. He is fine as long as no one walks by. But when someone walks by he gets very aggressive and trys to Jump my fence. Especially KIDS.. He was teased by children,( previous Owners).. My Fence is 4 feet tall. But he is a very Good Jumper to say the least. I have had to resort to tieing him outside. But I feel this will not fix the situation.. PLEASE SOMEONE help.. I want to be able to let him run. But i cannot risk him Jumping my fence and Biting someone. I have though about Shock Collars But I don't like to have to do that to him. The previous owners never trained this dog in any way. He is NOW neutered.. And house broke.. He is very Active and when he gets Excited he can nip. I was trying to hold him and make him hold still in front of kids and he tried to nip at me so I would let him go. He did not break the skin or even mark me. But that is not the point... PLEASE HELP????

This poor dog has more than just fence issues. First, neither a shock collar nor being tied up is the answer for this dog - both will only make his problems much, much worse. Also, a 4' fence is nowhere near high enough - he needs a 6' fence.

Collies are very active dogs, they're herding dogs, and as such, they need both a lot of exercise as well as something to stimulate their minds. This particular dog first and foremost needs obedience with a very qualified instructor who understands dog psychology and can handle a dog like him who's been turned aggressive through being teased and being frustrated (tieing a dog up is a sure-fire way to ruin their temperament!!). He also needs something fun to do to release energy like agility or flyball.

There's a lot of things that you can do to improve the situation. First, take this dog to obedience training. He needs to be taught not to jump, and the socialization there will help a lot. Second, save up for a taller wooden fence that he can't jump and will have a hard time seeing through. Best of luck!

Try seeing how high he can jump then build onto the fence just above that limit. He's kinda like my dog, I tried letting her loose and then having my friends walk by. See what he does, if he nips yell at him firmly, and if he doesn't a little praise would be good.

you need to enroll him in some obedience classes right away. It also sounds like he's a high energy dog, so some agility courses would probably be good for him too.

but when dogs have serious issues like what your dog is exhibiting, you really should seek the help of a professional.

have you ever heard of Cesar Milan? You should google him, he is amazing. he has a show on the National Geographic channel called The Dog Whisperer, & the things that he can do to rehabilitate "problem" dogs is practically unbelievable.

shock collars are best. they dont hurt that much for a dog of his size. just like getting a static shock but it will be enough to keep him behind the fence. when you get the shock collar give him a larger longer tie just in case.
