Hi I was diagnoised with Bacterial Vaginitis today. I was given a perscription of Metronidazol 250 mg tab. I am suppose to take 2 tablets by mouth 3 times daily for 7 days. That would be 1500 mg a day. It just seems like a high dose to me and I have done some reseach online an from what I can tell 1000mg a day is a normal treatment.

Thoughts??

That dose is pretty normal. The maximum daily dose of Flagyl (metronidazole) is 4 g/day (or 4000 mg) so you are well below that max dose. I hope that your pharmacist talked to you about the importance not having ANY alcohol while on this drug.

Hope this helps!!

Not at all. Most patients take 500 mgs 3-4 times daily. I believe 4 grams is considered the normal maximum. Flagyl is used to treat many different things so dosage varies greatly based on what they are treating. good luck!
