Wedge is right. Tony Stewart has already won an IRL championship. In fact, he has won ten championships in six different kinds of cars.

1980 - Jr. Karting track champion
1983 - International Karting Federation Grand National Champion
1987 - World Karting Association National Champion
1991 - USAC Rookie of the Year
1994 - USAC Midget Champion
1995 - USAC Midget Champion
1995 - USAC Sprint Champion
1995 - USAC Silver Crown Champion
1996 - IRL Rookie of the Year
1997 - IRL Champion
1999 - NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year
2002 - NASCAR Winston Cup Champion
2005 - NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion

By comparison, Fernando Alonso, the current F1 champion, has won a total of thirteen championships. Two of those were the F1 championship and the rest were in karting.

Ferrari_Fan claims that the only professional drivers can drive in F1. I contend that both Stewart and Alonso and all other racers racing in the top levels of motorsport are professionals. Both Stewart and Alonso started in karts, but ended up in different top level series.

I would love to see Tony Stewart at the wheel of an F1 car. I would also love to see Alonso try to pilot an outlaw dirt car at somewhere like Knoxville, Iowa.

the only thing in F1 tony stewart would be good at driving in the car transporters. The drivers in F1 would mop the floor with him. Plus, he is FAR to fat for F1. He needs to just stay in nascar where he, and the rest of those so-called "drivers" belong. Leave F1 to the pros.

First of all Tony already has an IRL championship 1996-97 in fact. Second he's the kinda guy if you put a motor on a wheelbarrel he'll race it.

OldSchool--WELL SAID. I just wish more drivers like STEWART would stick around OPEN WHEEL longer. The fact is NASCAR is the place to be ,money wise.My guess is he'll stick around NASCAR for a couple more years, then make a run at INDY.The INDY500 is more important to SMOKE than even the DAYTONA500 is.I've heard him say it more than once.
