I know the Egg and the Bunny have nothing to do with Easter.

That is why I am asking.

The Name Easter comes from the Goddess of Heaven Ishtar

Easter Eggs and Rabbits have NOTHING to do with Mr.Jesus. The "Easter Hare" is an ancient (FAR older than 2000 years!) fertility symbol (hence the eggs) that appeared in the Spring to celebrate the renewal of Nature. Followers of Mr.Jesus stole this holiday because it happened close to the time he was crucified.

P.S. Jesus wasn't born on December 25th, either. That is the date of Saturnalia, another Pagan holiday! Did it never strike you as odd that "shepherds tend their flocks at night" in the dead of winter?

A better question would be why are so many Christians celebrating two Pagan holidays every year?

Most everyone celebrates easter as a holiday, children dress up, play games and hide eggs, go on vacations etc. There is nothing to indicate that it cannot be celebrated by everyone. Children love the game of hunting eggs and many churches have that added attraction for them. They also have church services to celebrate the morning Jesus arose from the dead but non believers have the same rights to celebrate as they see fit.

I like a good Easter Dinner....but I think all religion and Jesus is a con game...its good for the masses who are emotional cripples...but I think an intelligent person who is capable of independent thought believes that the Earth is more than 10,000 years old and that a boat trip saving all the living organisms is a ridiculous story--why didnt the lions eat the zebras and how come there was enough genetic diversity with just two of everyhthing and how is it possible that all organisms were brought on board?? sheesh....I believe in myself...thats where I put my faith...btw I also believe in evolution and gravity and they are only theories....

I beleieve in JESUS but do not have anything to do with easter eggs or easter bunnies.Do a study on the origin of easter and also on the easter bunny and egg. Then do a study on the ancient assyrian goddess asherah/ashteroth, the people sacraficed their children alive to her in the fire. She was the goddess of fertility and her symbol was the bunny. One of her festivals was at easter and they used the egg to represent the newness of life and the rabit as a symbol for human fertility as they sacraficed their children to her. This was "christianized" minus the child sacrafice and adopted into the roman catholic church, then passed down to protestant churches.Read the book "the two babylons" by alexander hyslop.

Wiccans and Pagans celebrate it. The pagan festival of Eastre occurred at the same time of year as the Christian observance of the Resurrection of Christ. It made sense, therefore, to alter the festival itself, to make it a Christian celebration as converts were slowly won over. The early name, Eastre, was eventually changed to its modern spelling, Easter.

Oh jeez. Are you going to get hammered for this question.

Did you ever wonder what eggs and bunnies had to do with Jesus? Nothing. It's a PAGAN celebration that the christians stole. Wiki it.

i believe in jesus of nazareth. i hold him up there with ghandi and buddha, but i do not worship him. i think he was a great guy whose words are very misinterpreted.

we are pagans, but we celebrate eostara and easter. i do not want to keep my kid from having those holidays his friends have. we just have an earth based version to most christian holidays along with a celebration of the popular versions.

so, i guess, we have a lot of holidays at my house. but i don't think that is such a bad thing and he learns a little about all cultural celebrations with us. we talk and honor things like hannukah and kwanza as well as many celtic traditions.

It is a paegan holiday. The Christians modified it to suit their needs to get more people into christianity. So if someone does celebrate the aspect of easter without Jesus, they are probably following that faith.

Spring was full of pagan rituals, long before the story of Jesus. I can celebrate spring, and eat marshmallow peeps, without having to believe in anything!
