Yes, the renal system is able to both filter and secrete toxins from the blood in order for it to be excreted in the urine. In fact, many medications have contraindications for patients with renal impairment because the kidneys cannot effectively remove toxic metabolites from the body, and thus the drug becomes accumulates to a toxic level.

In addition, it has some minor enzymatic activity similar to that of liver enzymes, and is able to deactive some compounds in that fashion as well.

Some things like mercury can be removed from the blood by a process called chelation.
The kidneys remove many toxins from the blood but some things are beyond it and the result can be life threatening
