This is the message we convey in our house. We have the rule that you can say what you want as long as you watch how you say it. Another rule is, "when you are in this house, no-one will hurt you. If someone tries, they will be dealt with appropriately and will be told to write a letter of apology." When my kids were younger, the letter of apology was usually a picture that they drew and had to explain it to the person the letter (pitcure) was intended for.

Great question!
I think I would make it as " kid friendly" as possible. This would vary depending on which age group you are working iwth ( 2-6 years is a huge span).
-Making a room "comfortable" could be more difficult because you want to send the message that they are still in a classroom and that there is still structure. I think you could choose a calming paint scheme.
- Letting children know that they are never alone makes them feel apart of something. If you could find a way to make them see that, even though they are different, they have things in common, they would feel that they belong in your classroom.
-I think that safetly and adults who help can be linked together. Maybe placing a picture of the staff and description of their job and where they are located in your building will help them to know that there is always an adult to help.
-I think if you find a way to display something good about every student, you will convey the message that everyone is capable.
I hope this helps. I worked in day care for a long time and am not a pediatric nurse. I love this question!

First are u setting up a classroom. If so u need to have clean environment. make sure that teachers are friendly, loving and adapts to changes well. Allowing the children to play freely in their own space. having small size furniture for their age. Knowing their names and their needs. Some kids like to be held, some like to be free. Some kids cry a lot and some adapts to changes fast. U have to look at everything when it comes to our babies.

I have a feeling this is for a college assignment for child development course?
If so, it is exactly what I had to do in my portfolio for my last few child development courses.
Plus, grealty helped with my teaching abilities.
When entering the classroom, the classroom should be well neat, kept and lovely display of appealing colors that isn't too overwhelming. If this is an elementry class, the desks should be in at least groups of 4 that helps with socialization and to help the capacity/space.
In a classroom, there should consist of at least 4 center areas: Building (various textures and sizes of blocks and other building materials), reading, language arts and craft.
Walking into a classroom, it is ideal to have the language arts (media/theatre) next or near to the reading. But not have the reading next to the blocks, due to distraction of noise etc.
In the reading, there should kid friendly. Meaning, bean bags, big stuff animals or soft comfy pillow's etc. Carpet is recommended and availability of it having a "spacer" inbetween it and other activity area's (like have a book shelf seperating that center from another). Gives self privacy and helps block a little of the noise. Book ranges from disney, inspiration, personal family life that relates to both genders with out sexualism or biast, and nature in its own.
For arts (craft). Have a wide range of paper, cutting, drawing and designs available for open use and directive use.
The classroom should be accessful for special needs children and adults to feel wecomed. Desks with out chairs, placed with children. Discuss special needs for a way of understanding and help among his or her's peers.
Allow the children to have the classroom be expressed by themselves. Have them paint a big picture and place it on the wall. Kids love showing off their work to other kids and their parents. Allows them to feel important and uses their skills.
Children should be able to freely express themselves. The classroom should be an oppurtunity of learning and expressing in a fun way, than an over constructive and "too much in schedule to cause rush".
Free time should be available at least 20 mins out of the day, twice a day depending on what grade and regular school schedule permits. free play can be given as a math, english or other skill as a lesson plan. English: matching word games, spelling games etc.
Adults should be able to come in and be noticed, greeted and talked with. They should be confident their children are safe by making sure whoever walks through that door, is not a stranger for example.
Welcome adults to join the classroom. Have activity days where parents can come and help out whether doing teaching, instructing, helping with snack or lunch, playing a game outside or just to sit back and go around to help each group. It gives a self of assurance to kids and to parents. Helps with development of the child and understanding to teacher during observation.
Teachers are to listen to children and not inflict own personal value's and opinion's onto children who's home life or personal experiences are different. I am always listening and making sure the "time fits the crime" as the saying goes.
My main thing is respect towards onself and their peers. I am very vocal about a child vocalizing their ownselfs. "I don't like to be touched that way" "I do not like to be hit. Do not hit me". "I love......____. It is a lot of fun. Want to join" etc. Positive enforcements for me to pass on to them, so they can teach eachother positive ways of solving problems.

you can make them feel welcomed and confortable by seting up their own play space, have a mini fridge with ice cream and some goodies, you should also set up a movie time like 3 times a month. Dont forget to also set up rules.
