how do i ask for a little off the top?

i want to go cut me hair because my faux hawk is getting to tall and i dont know how to ask for it to be cut to an inch and a half. i also dont know whether i should go with my faux hawk already styled the way i style it or just without any gel at all? if i go with gel it will be a problem for them to cut it because i pull up the front of my hair with gel but the back part of the top of my head lays flat.

Go with the gel. Let them know what you want and they can wash your hair for the cut and re gel when you are done. They are professionals and you should use one person to cut your hair each time if you want it the same style.

go into the salon with your hair all done up like you always do. Then they can see your style and you will discuss it before the wash your hair prior to cutting
