OI recently crashed and had someone reinstall windows xp. I saw him enter my name as a user name, I puts a pause on a reboot to click on the user name to continue. How can I get rid of that name so windows boots straight to the desktop. That's the way it was before the crash

All of the answers above are correct, but you may have an additional issue. If the only username on the computer is the one you wish to eliminate, first set up a new administrator-level user, then sign in on the new user account and delete the old account.

Hey also, hmmm kinda funny. You wouldn't happen to have a wireless USB attached to this PC would you? If so uninstall the software and use Windows XP to manage your wireless USB by just using the drivers located in your wireless USB install disk. Sux but been there. For some reason those USB wireless companies mess up XP so you are forced to log in the old fashion way. Hope that or this helps.

Also want to add this.

Explains how to fix a corupted profile. Just create a new one and copy old to new and it will give you a fresh reg. Awsome trick. If it doesn't help it is still a cool thing to bail you out of troubles. Important part though is once you create the new user you HAVE TO COMPLETELY LOG INTO WINDOWS UNDER THAT USER, because it has to build the profile and make almost like a new install of windows. After that you can copy it over in safemode using the Admin profile. TAAAAKes forever but be patient it is worth it and I cannot spell.
