I have never ever been late with a bill until three weeks ago my grandmother very suddenly passed away and I had to leave town right away. This made me a couple weeks late with my water payment. The other day my land lady came BANGING on my door and screaming at me that I was late with my payment and I owed her a check right now or else. Well all my neighbors could hear her and were looking and I was so embarrassed. I got the check that I had already written out and when I handed it to her I wanted to explain and apologize. When I started to she reached inside my house and pulled the door shut on me. Like I said I have never been late with a payment before and I don't think she was justified in treating me like some dead beat who doesn't pay my bills for being two weeks late with one 45.00 water bill. Should I complain to her boss?

I would make a written complaint against her.

Did you call or write the landlord a letter stating that your payment would be late and why. If not, make sure you do that next time you're going to be late on any bill. In retrospect, that still does not justify her rude behavior. Never burn your bridges. Before your lease is up, write her a certified letter stating that you will be moving, therefore, if you need a referral she will give you a good one. Remember that we are not responsible for the way people treat us, but we are responsible for the way we treat other people.

Yes, you absolutely should complain to her boss. You should also confront her about it, pointing out what happened, and that you've always been a good tenant. If you don't think she'll listen you could write a letter- a very polite one.

It could be worse- I once had a landlord who tried to control my religion, and tended to come in the apartment when we were not home thinking we wouldn't clue in. We did, and to catch him in the act, we used to pretend not to be home. Anyway, a lot of landlords don't treat their tenants with respect and she clearly needs telling that you're a person deserving of respect, and while you pay your rent it is your HOME she is barging into screaming.

I would definitely complain. Her behavior was very unprofessional. The fact that you've never been late on a payment should've been a red flag to her that something was going on. You should write a letter to her boss documenting the date and time of the occurrence to create a paper trail, just in case she goes crazy again.

Absolutely. No employee has the right to treat a customer that way. You are a customer. She is an employee. Advise your landlord, her boss, that you intend file a complaint against him for her failure to go through the proper procedure for collecting rents and fees.

Then, do it and move out. Life is too short to put up with a piece of trash like that woman.

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother. Your landlady is a witch. If she has a boss, I would send a letter to be put in your file explaining the lateness.

Oh my goodness, I thought I once had the landlady from hell. I had to call the police on her onetime because she had a bad habit of entering my apartment unannounced and onetime I was home walking around naked and she brought some plumber in and I was caught in my birthday suite. I was not a happy camper and I started cuzzin her out so badly she called the police on me. They just told me to calm down and informed her that she needed to give me proper notice unless it was an extreme emergency such as fire etc... I have since then called the building inspector on her, after that moved into a beautiful house....

Write a letter to her boss (make a copy for yourself!) and let them know what happened. Chances are she's done this to others too.

write her an apology for being late (no, she doesn't deserve one, but lets be nice) and then, yes write to her boss. If economically possible, you also might want to move.

Absolutely complain in writing. She had no right to touch your door.

Crazed cow syndrome.
