Hey DPHS........ I think I may be quailfied to answer this question. I'm not fifty YET but I can see it looming on the horizon. I just had an all day coverup session done on an old tattoo (9 hours). I always wanted tattoos growing up. I use to stick the fake ones we got in bubble gum and Cracker Jacks to my skin and wear them for as long as I could. I didnt get them because tattooing was illegal in my state at the time. My tattoos are for me. I have them located where a shirt will cover them and very few people outside of me and my family know I have them (so it's not so teens we think we are cool). The people my wife and I ride with know we have tattoos. But most of them are old farts like me, and all of them have ink.Ultimately I like tattoos because they are art and your skin the canvas.......
PS 360 to see the work

I have Phil Ochs tattooed on my arm (folks singer) I even have "Never Die" and a rose tattooed throughout my feet, with a tigerbat above the feet on my left foot for Tiger Army. I see me getting a pair extra musician tattoos. I have an Ochs lyric tattoed around the again of my neck (Sacred are the scars) and an Op Ivy lyric around the insides of each hands (It's lovely I could say... I shouldn't have it every other method.) I'm considering a sizzling-rod tradition tat, skulls and roses and a banner, gotta decide on the lyric to head within the banner regardless that. As it stands in these days, I'd frequently decide on "In loss of life as in existence, I will come up" or "My sense of right and wrong contains the burden of blood."

I am 24 and i get them because I like them for one... two being an artist I can make my own designs... three each one represents a part of me and my life... Like my son's name and birth date on my ankle. I have no regrets about getting them.
I don't get them for ANYONE else.. they are for ME.. I have them placed so I have a choice to show them or not. It has nothing to do with being "cool" to me.
As for the 40 year olds getting them... I don't know what their reasons are... some people have good reasons (at least in my opinion) and others have "on the fly" reasons. It is a big choice to make, not something you do "just because".... It is permanent!
Unfortunately more people are finding them "cool" and not getting them for good reasons (such as "because it is different, something fun to do" horrible reason to get something that is permanent!).... which will later lead them to regret getting them.

i am 25 yrs old and didn't get any tattoos until i was 20. i am 6 and probably will get them until i die, not because i am trying to be cool, i really could geve a **** less if any one thinks i am cool or not, cause my kids and family think i'm alright. thats all that matters to me. anyway, someone who gets and tattoo to be cool and it doesn't have any meaning behind it is nothing but a poszer, and poszers suk. so power to the people who have enough guts to get inked and put a part of their life on their body, its symbolism, it doesn't matter if your 18 or 90.

Some people like tattoos. It's a cool form of art. If you don't like tattoos, then you don't need to get any. Plain and simple huh?
And it's not a "HUGE decision". It's just body art. In 100 years you will be rotted away in the ground. So who cares. Enjoy your body and your freedom while you can.

I'm almost 40 and I get my tattoos because I always wanted them-- and before I was too afraid what "people" would say. I'm old enough now that I don't really care anymore and I do what *I* want.

I don't think it has anything to do with how old you are. People get them because they want to. As far as teens getting them you have to be 18 to get one so the only teens who can have them are 18 or 19.

Tattoos are a form of permanent artistic expression and I think that's why so many people are getting them right now.

are you kidding me with this?
why do you ask stupid questions? The answer to that is probably the same answer...BECAUSE WE CAN.
its as simple as that, getting tattoos is a form of self expression, one in which no matter what type of things happen, (tornado, hurricane, fire, etc, ) we arent going to lose it. As long as we are living, people can see what we believe and I love that fact.
