My family is moving to the Las Vegas area in several months and we know very little about the area. We don't want to stay in the business district, but somewhere not too far from the job market. Any ideas? Also does any one know what the rent runs there for a 2 bedroom house?

There really isn't a "business district" in Las Vegas. If you already have a job, my advice is to live where the easiest commute is. If you are working on the strip, the best route would be the southwest, thats the newest part of the valley. The northwest is a very far drive to the strip, and you have to take the freeways. I have lived in Las Vegas for all of my life (31 years) and have lived pretty much all over the area and the most conveinent is the southwest, in my opinion. Check out Southern Highlands, Silverado Ranch, Anthem, Mountains Edge or Rhodes Ranch, those are the nicest. Do not go to North Las Vegas or East Las Vegas.
Good Luck, I hope this helps!

i think the northwest area is a better place to live if you like it a little calmer. i'ved lived in the area for 4 years now. i have 2 little ones and it just feels safer. it is a little more expensive and it can take 30-45 minutes to get to the strip, but it is also growing. right now the average rent for a 2 bedroom house is about $1200-1400. there are some that go for less since the housing market is low right now. just keep checking. i recommend looking in the las vegas review journal website.

Take a look at the Southwest or Summerlin Areas as well. You should be able to find a house to rent for around $1,400 or so.

Try to find a house close to where you are going to be working. The commute from Henderson to the Sorthwest area can be 45 minutes to an hour.

go to www.craigslist.org & search for homes for rent in las vegas.

the north west part of town is the hottest as far as where people want to live. it's a little more expensive, but it's worth it.
