Probably a lady named Mary Ward, who fell under a steam-powered vehicle in Ireland on 31 August 1869. The first fatality due to a petrol-driven (gasoline engined) car colliding with a pedestrial was a woman named Bridgette Driscoll who was fatally struck in 1896. The first driver and passenger to die in an auto accident was one Edwin Sewell (driver) and Major Richer who were killed in an accident that ocurred on 25 February 1895.
