My little 3 year old has just come in and I have noticed her foot is bleeding. It's not gushing and I think will stop on its own but she keeps cleaning it. It is inbetween her toes on her back leg. She keeps spreading her toes to clean it which opens the cut again. Any ideas as to how I can stop her from cleaning it? I can't take her to the vet until the morning. any ideas on bandaging? i need to put something on it that she wont get off.

Thanks for all your answers. She let me have a look at it, it is quite deep although has stopped bleeding for now. I think it may need a stitch or two. She seems ok - found the catnip toys and is rolling around the floor with them!! Will get her to the vet as soon as it opens, can't risk infection. Going to take me a while to clean up the blood she has managed to walk through the house but at least she is ok. Thanks again.

If the bleeding isn't bad, then allowing her to lick it will clean it out. But if she keeps at it a long time, it's also possible there's still something in there, a thorn or piece of glass or something. Will she let you look at it? You might find something and be able to remove it.

Flour like you use to bake will stop the bleeding. Then use an ace bandage or that elastic kind of bandage to cover it. She will probably still shake it off but other than Duct taping the poor thing....just kidding.. An Elizabeathin collar will make it so she cannot lick it any more you can buy them at pet stores but they are kinda costly for a one time use. Good Luck

DON'T USE ANTIBACTERIAL OINTMENT FOR HUMANS!! it's poisonous to animals...i had a cat once that got a thorn between his toes...i cleaned it good with hydrogen peroxide, then put a gauze pad on it, and wrapped it snug, not tight, all the way to his hip with Vet Wrap...any large animal store that carries vet supplies for horses will have this wrap...it sticks to itself, not the animal, and it is very hard for them to chew off, so it will take some time for kitty to get it off, giving the wound a chance to heal...change it everyday and by the end of a week or so it should be healed enough so she can't re-open it by licking it

There is some thing you can get and it is called STOP BLEEDING you can get that at the pet store. If you have a gauze put it on the wound and lightly tape it and not to tight and then bring the cat to the vet. Good Luck.

If it's not gushing, I would probably let her continue cleaning her wound. Licking it probably helps with any pain she may feel. If you're wanting to bandage the wound so blood won't get on anything, maybe put her in a comfortable room where she won't damage anything and can rest. Again, if it's not gushing, she'll probably be fine.

Put a little sock over her foot to keep her from licking at it for a bit. Don't keep it on there permanently, because you want the cut to air out and heal. It's important for her to lick it for a little bit to clean it, but if she's done that, then put something over her foot so the cut can close.

to stop a cat from bleeding you need to take her to the vet as fast as you can in the morning.this might be serious.but you should go to a pet store and try and find a bandage and if you cant find one try putting a sock over it but don't keep it on for too long because the cut will need air to heal better.i hope my advice will help you with your cat.GOOD LUCK!

She'll take car of it on her own... but if you're worried about getting blood on your carpet or something, try putting a sock or rag over it.

You may want to go to a pet store and see if there is a particular bandage for foot wounds.

Wrap a small sock around her foot and tape it with tape. You need to do it about halfway up her leg to keep her from pulling it off. They actually learn to deal with it pretty quick.
