A lot depends on the type of headache you have.
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) reduces pain and fever without any anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning action. It is also safer for children than ibuprofen, aspirin, etc., and easier on the stomach. You do not want to take more than the recommended dose, however; overdose can lead to breathing problems.
On the other hand, if pain is caused by inflammation or accompanied by swelling, arthritis, etc., the anti-inflammatory effects of ibuprofen (Advil) are an advantage, as it can more directly address the causes/primary symptoms that are causing the headache. The downside is that ibuprofen acts in a manner somewhat like aspirin, and so it's not recommended if you have digestive problems or are planning to have surgery within five to ten days.
For myself, most of my aches are inflammation-based, so I take ibuprofen and a separate decongestant if it's a sinus headache. It is also possible to use acetaminophen and ibuprofen together; the action of each is different, and there is no narcotic reaction from taking either or both according to directions.

Acetaminophen( Tylenol) is a pain reliever and ibuprofen(* Advil) is an anti-inflammatory. For a headache, I'd try Tylenol, but really, it comes to personal preference and what works for you. Either one should help.

Ibuprofen works better than acetaminophen in my opinion. One 200mg Advil seems to do more than 1000mg Tylenol. Not all ibuprofen is the same. I find that "candy coated" Advil is the best, the others just don't have that sweet coating. Advil Liquigels are also good, fast acting, but sadly not sweet. Ibuprofen dosage is 1 or 2 pills, but I find 1 more than adequate. Ibuprofen are all coated, but Advil are coated the best. Other brand's, especially store brands, have thin coatings that don't hold up well if you have any problems swallowing pills, because you do not want to taste ibuprofen. Tylenol tastes bad, but ibuprofen tastes like poison, you DO NOT want to TASTE ibuprofen!
