It really depends. If I'm in a rush, I like to just grab something and pop it in the microwave. But it is much more adventurous to try something on your own. My boyfriend and I have a tradition that once a month we try out a new recipe together and make a meal from scratch. It's cheaper than going out and really forces us to work together. Plus it's a lot of fun!

I prefer to cook from scratch because I know the ingredients I'm putting in my food. How much sugar, salt, fat, etc. Prepackaged stuff has so many chemicals and other stuff we really don't need to be eating. That said, I do use boxed mixes some and some convenience foods - working 8 hours a day, five days a week, an hour from home, it's virtually impossible to not. I just think it's healthier, not to mention tastier, to make my own stuff. I very seldom use prepared cookie dough, and might have purchased frozen bread dough once. I have used a lot of the pie crust because I couldn't get mine to turn out right, but I'm getting much better at that too so I don't buy it as often - homemade is better.

I feel better making food from scratch. That way, I can control what ingredients to use for the best result. For example, my homemade alfredo is so much better because I add my own spices to kick up the flavor. For things like puff pastries, I use frozen ones because it is so hard to make from scratch. But overall, I don't use a lot of prepackaged mix.

I love to cook and my wife likes it when I do. Cooking from scratch is the best way. The food taste better and there is a since of accomplishment when your spouse thanks you for a wonderful meal. It is also a great way to spend time with you spouse in the kitchen cooking together. I do use package stuff some times when I am short on time but the weekends are for the good stuff.

I sometimes use the packaged products if I am short of time. However, no matter how good they are, the difference to home made "from scratch" is still obvious. Whenever I can I make my homemade pastry, pasta and cookies. Home made brownies are "to die for". They do take more effort but how much more they are appreciated!! I think they do work out cheaper too sometimes!

When I prepare food, its as though I'm giving myself a nice hug! Simple as that sounds, the idea of planning a meal, purchasing or finding the ingrediants, and the execution of it is tremendously satisfying. I have wonderful memories standing along side my mom watching her cook and making everything she prepared taste wonderful. Cooking from scratch is certainly a passion! Aside from being better for you nutritionally, it allows you to "slow down" and take your mind off of other things. Feeding your family a favorite meal and sitting down to enjoy it together helps them know that they are loved. Cooking from scratch has a sensualty to it as well: thick slices of juicy tomatoes, thick, rich cream, tender roast beef, succulant lamb chops, crunchy green beans, the juice of fresh peaches dripping between your fingers as you slice them for a pie.....doesn't get any better than that!

Absolutely! I don't like the idea of eating preservatives and chemicals. The convenience foods that you buy are processed to be stored for up to months before being eaten. Thus, they have chemicals added, and you don't know what you're eating. When I cook, I KNOW exactly what I'm putting in my body.
