Take a few paper towels (leave them all connected and a stronger variety is preferred....like bounty) and douse them in some water. Wring it out really well...you want it to just be damp all over. Spread the bag salad over the towel and gently roll it up. (Its the same concept as why grocery stores periodically spray the lettuce). You can then place this in a Ziploc bag but don't seal it up tight. If you seal it the humidity will increase too much and cause the leaves to soften.

This should increase your lettuce by about 2 days.

If you want lettuce that lasts then buy heads of lettuce and only cut off as much as you need. This lettuce will always last longer than bag salad which has already been bruised via the process which put the lettuce in the bag.

even if you put it in an airtight container or zip lock bag it will look like that after 2-3 days that kind of stuff is meant to be eaten right away

Empty it into an airtight container. That works for me. My salads last a week.
