I am trying to buy one on Ebay, but I don't know what kind to get. I don't need a $200 one either! Anyone have a recommendation? Thanks!

Uniden, definitely Uniden.

I have had Uniden scanners for about 10 years now, and I have been very satsified with what Uniden has had to offer. For a long time I had the Uniden Sportcat SC150, which had the capacity to hold up to 100 channels. A few years ago Uniden came out with newer scanners that were in a more compact package so they can fit in your shirt pocket or pants pocket. The capabilities of these newer scanners are just as good as the previous models they offered. Uniden offers three different scanners for listening to NASCAR frequencies. There's the BC72XLT, the basic model which holds up to 100 channels. The mid-level model is the BC92XLT, which holds up to 200 channels. That is good because you can program in both the primary and alternate frequencies. This is the Uniden scanner I purchased a couple of years ago. The top of the line is the SC230, which can handle up to 2500 channels. All of these models come with something that the older models never had--a backlit feature so you can see what frequency you are on. These newer models also use a different type of battery versus their older counterparts. The older models used Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) batteries, usually in a wrapped pack of four. The newer models use Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-Mh) that are rechargable. They go into the scanner the same way batteries are put into most toys and appliances and electronics. You can also use regular alkaline batteries in these scanners, but I feel it is best to go with the Ni-Mh batteries because you will save money in the long run from not needing to purchase alkaline batteries again and again and again.

As for that Nextel Fanview, it is a really cool scanner. I think it would be better to purchase it from a Nexteld dealer, but I have no idea how much it runs right now. If you want to rent one at the track on a race weekend, it generally runs $50 for a day or $80 for the weekend. The big con to renting is that you are required to put down a $500 deposit. I don't think so!

I just rented a Nextel Fanview at Bristol over the weekend and it rocked. I got to listen to Stewart cuss up a storm and cry when he lost fuel pressure. It gives you each drivers stats for that racetrack and real time leaderboard. You can also listen to the officials and the radio broadcast. I would never use a scanner again. Also view in car cameras. Go to Nextel website and check them out.

Check Ebay. I got a Uniden Bearcat like 3 years ago w/2 headsets, splitter jack, all for under $100. Sweet deal, good stuff too.
