Intelligence has to be given away for faith to take over. Intelligence doesn't believe in faith. Intelligence and understanding are two different things and yes self knowledge and understanding is needed that, is how ya get to the faith point.

Faith bridges the gaps which are otherwise supplied by knowledge.

It is a poor substitute.

Fundamental knowledge is (obviously) needed as a foundation for "intelligent life".

Faith is simply a prejudice commitment that does NOT require proof. Simply said, one has experienced God so with this pre judgement they have faith in God. Simple as that. Don't be so nit picky about proof. Theres tons of it. People just seldom care to look at the proof maybe because of Ignorance but more likely fear.
