I found two definitions which I really like:

1. An interconnectedness of one's self, others, and the universe
2. An individual's effort to construe a broad sense of personal meaning that gives one the will to live productively

What do you think of those definitions? Do you have another one that you feel does a good job of defining spirituality?

*Not religion---spirituality

I think both definitions are very beautiful. We all came from one (I'll use the word "source" so as to not offend anyone), "source" and from one "source" all things were made. So, yes we are all connected. As for the 2nd, a persons brain chemistry can change from positive to negative with long lasting effects. The negative would be a paranoid, depressed person and overtime would be mentally ill. However, its positive would be a person who practices peace and taming ones anger. With constant effort the person naturally stays happy and sees the positive in even the bad, over time. I'd say thats productive. Complaining and getting angry isn't productive for anyone.

I like the first one alot, and most certainly the second one has merit, but I feel like something is missing from them both.
For me spirituality is the connection between myself and everything else in the Universe, but it's also a journey of learning in which I must choose what it is that I learn.
I'm not sure I can really express it any better than that.

Spirituality is the recognition of one's place in the scope of the universe, and a recognition of the symbols in which the story of one's life is told as well as understanding how one's life affects the interpretation of those symbols.
