I am seriously hoping I will eventually be able to put pressure and eat on that side of my mouth and/or tooth. I had a root canal years ago on one of my upper teeth and it ended up having to be pulled cause my dentist fricked it up! So this time my new dentist sent me to an endodontist to do it and the process went much smoother, but I am still sore. I hope the pain will go away.......any idea on when though? I have pain meds........

ASHLIE,

AN ENDODONTIST ONLY DOES ROOT CANALS ALL THE TIME. THIS IS GREAT BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE MOST EXPERIENCED DENTIST, A SPECIALIST, WORKING ON THIS TOOTH.
ANYTIME A TOOTH HAS A ROOT CANAL THERE IS ALSO MINOR TRAUMA TO THE BONE BELOW THE TOOTH. THIS IS NORMAL AND WILL GET BETTER SOON. TAKE SOME ADVIL (IBUPROFEN) TO HELP WITH THE DISCOMFORT. YOU WILL BE O.K.
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T WAIT TOO LONG TO HAVE A CROWN PUT ON THAT TOOTH.
ROOT CANAL-ED TEETH HAVE A TENDENCY TO DRY AND BECOME BRITTLE WHICH CAN CAUSE THEM TO FRACTURE.

Oh poor you, Root Canals can be painful before and after, at least you were in the hands of a specialist.
When you have a root canal the dentist has to go deep down into the apex of the tooth to remove the nerve and this can be very sensitive.
It is a common complaint after having Rct, bear in the mind the dentist has been in the canals with his endo files some times a file may go through the end of the apex and this can cause pain, an xray should have been taken after the procedure to ensure that the canals were sealed to avoid any saliva/bacteria flowing back into the tooth and triggering off an infection.
Keep taking the pain killers, try Nurofen, these will also act as an anti inflammatory and will reduce any swelling which may occur.
Try to avoid biting on the tooth for a few more days and if the pain persists go back to your regular dentist!

the dentist, has disturb, the tooth and tissue around it, it will be bruised. hence you find it hard to put pressure or eat on that side

you will find you need to take some form of pain killer, this will help the pain, and the swelling.

it will take about a week for the pain to go away, and it will, it did with mine.
