It starts at my left shoulder with a tingling sensation then spreads threw my whole back and then progresses to feeling like little needles are getting thrown at me.

It sounds like a pinched nerve in your spine. You should go see the doctor. Sometimes exercises help and sometimes they do surgery for this. If it's just started you may be able to do something about this before it gets worse.

Pinched nerve is possible. You should see a doctor. It could be a muscle problem (a weak muscle or tendon can throw everything off such that a muscle is pressing on a nerve) or it could be something with your spine where a disk could be compressing.

I'm not a doctor so you really should see one. Numbness if it's not tied to something obvious (i.e. you cut off blood circulation because you slept on your arm wrong or something) is not a good thing.

It is most likely a pinched nerve. Go to a Chiropractor or a physical therapist. I prefer the physical therapist.
