In most cases the only vehicle-disabling feature that's used on a car alarm is a starter kill relay. If your car is cranking, that makes it unlikely that the alarm is causing the no-start condition unless some other kind of disable was installed; and even if a fuel-pump kill relay was used, unplugging the alarm module should have taken care of it.

You did not say how long the alarm has been on the car. If it is a new addition, it may be the cause. However, the Prestige alarm is made by Audiovox and I know them to be very reliable. I suspect something else, after all it is a '96. After 11 years something is bound to go wrong. I would check the fuel pump relay. I had a '97 Taurus and that went out on mine twice during the 4 years I had it. I had the SVO V-6. Good luck - Gary
