Researched.
The books on my shelves that I disagree with outnumber the ones I agree with by a fair margin.
I already know what the authors who are on a similar wavelength to me have to say. It's the ones who think differently I need to consider more carefully.
They have not yet spontaneously combusted, no matter which volumes end up next to each other.
Dawkins and Lewis, Cupitt and McDowell,
Heisenberg and de Chardin.

I'm still in the process of being led towards a belief in God, the Christian God in particular. I never take things on impulse so I am slow to my conclusions. I am unable to disprove the faith, even when it appears contradictory at face value. Therefore, I am still being led toward it. All I want is the truth. I find a lot of truth in science and philosophy and I also find a lot of truth in the Bible (yes even the weird stories can be explained away, even Genesis which is not anti-evolution).

I have researched my beliefs, with a sincere desire for truth. The more I research, the more I find that things I once believed, were lies or misunderstandings of my momma and men in positions of misplaced authority. When you come right down to it, none of those teachings can be trusted as absolute. Like I've stated on this forum earlier, the only thing that is absolute is, that I am. Everything else is, speculation.

yes to your first question, and it was difficult to hold onto my faith because I had to make a dramatic shift in how I internalize the whole system upon which my core beliefs are based...and thus my basic psychology and sense of self, along with identity as a person of faith. This is why those who intertwine faith and reason are easily provoked when somoeone questions their doctrines. I had to let my faith and reason do their own things if need be, and that was the best spiritual stage of growth I could have ever gone through.

I have read from the bible, this is my research. What I do know is that the bible is the oldest book in existence, its historical references are accurate, and not one piece of the bible has ever been disproved. I will continue to apply its teachings to my life, as I believe that God needs no "logical" conclusion. Logical conclusion is the work of men and women, not necessarily of God, therefore, it is not as solid as the rock of which I derive my "logic" from, that being, the Lord.

actually, i followed my heart...i understand that 'logically', the heart is merely a major organ which serves to pump blood...there is far more to life than logical conclusions and facts...is there a painting, movie, song, person...that you simply love? did you research your preferences and form a logical conclusion based on facts? so much of life...in fact, the most rewarding and most important parts, cannot be researched, broken down into little components and equations that you can test and measure and quantify...a purely logical life sounds, to me, like a lonely, joyless, and drab existence...

Logical conclusions...which is why I'm agnostic. There's not enough concrete answers to prove anybody's theories.
There IS enough evidence to prove several ideas wrong though. Genesis, Noah...I'm looking at you guys!
