im really not trying to make anyone mad or anything or to threaten me with going to "hell" (refering to my last question "what do you think happens when you die?") but i just need to know how some one could have such confidence in such a religion. I mean i wont go into why i dislike the religion but i just want to know. Please try your hardest to give me some good reasons. thanks P.S sorry about the last question i didnt mean to tell anyone how to answer i just wanted honesty. also know that i have the very most respect for those of you who can believe in a religion without good reasons.;)

First, allow me to say that doubting is part of our human nature. Jesus had hand picked disciples....they followed him around Judea for 3 years. When Jesus was arrested and crucified most of them had run off and were hiding. How did they become so confident that they later gave their lives for the Christian faith? They were convinced that Jesus had really risen from the grave.

Why am I confident in my faith? First, the Christian faith is more than a simple subjective "believe-ism". The early church wrote creeds (Apostle's Creed, Nicean Creed, etc) emphasizing the fact that their faith was objective....based on real people, real places, and capturing real events. As a student of history, I find that the more I learn of the historical facts, the more it support my beliefs.

Secondly, I am confident via the conviction of the written word of the Bible. The Bible is an amazing book! I'm sure you've heard a lot of the nay-sayers who don't trust the text, or think that God is depicted as "mean" and "vindictive", or whatever. They simply don't understand what they are saying (or they don't want to understand). From the wisdom of Proverbs to the recorded teachings of Christ...the message is simply life-changing. Its not a matter of `I better follow this because I have to'....rather, there is a profound insight into life and how to live. Its hard to fully explain that, but you know it when you find it...

Finally, I am confident in what I believe because I've tested them all. Years ago I threw out everything and was willing to go wherever I was led. Atheism, Islam, whatever... I know what the others teach and why they believe what they do. In the end, I am a Christian by conviction of the truth.

From the way you worded your question, I take it that you are not a Christian. I understand that, and I hope that you didn't take my response as "preaching". I also understand it if there are things you dislike about visible Christianity. There are a lot of things I don't like too! But it's important to remember that Churches, Denominations, etc are all made up of people. They are all going to screw up...sometime really badly. However, that's a reflection on them, not on the Christian faith itself...

Christianity is currently the largest religion in the world. It is followed by about 33% of all people -- a percentage that has remained stable for decades.

I'd be nervous if I were a christian.........

Mat 7:13 ¶ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

How Many Christians Are There?
1,026,501,000 Roman Catholics and 316,445,000 ** Protestants in the world. Most Catholics are Roman Catholics; there are 60,018,436 ** in the United States. Protestants in the U.S. number 42,513,059 as of 1997. **

Wow! That sounds like every body is going that way. No effort, seems so pleasant to the eyes, and a tree (doctrine) to be desired.

What is the second largest Christian denomination in the United States? The Baptist Church is the leader with 23,929,356 members. ** Next in numbers are the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church.

Mat 7:14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

That does not sound like chistianity to me, what do you think?

Mat 7:15 ¶ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Hmm......

Revelation 12:9—
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world. She was cast out into the earth, and her angels were cast out with her.

Compare the following:
I Yahchanan 3:8—
He who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of Yahweh was manifested; that He might destroy the works of the devil.

I Yahchanan 2:4—
He who says: I know Him, but does not keep His Law, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Isayah 8:20—
To the Law and to the Prophecy: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

The Prophet Daniyl spoke of the religions changing the Laws of Yahweh and being allowed to do so, without correction, until the Last Days when Yahweh would establish a Work on earth that would correct the religions' deception. Notice this prophecy.

Daniel 7:22-23, 25, Amplified—
22 Until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High [God], and the time came when the saints possessed the kingdom.
23 Thus [the angel] said, The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all other kingdoms and shall devour the whole earth, tread it down, and break it in pieces, and crush it.
25 And he shall speak words against the Most High [God] and shall wear out the saints of the Most High and think to change the time [of sacred feasts and holy days] and the law; and the saints shall be given into his hand for a time, two times, and half a time [three and one-half years]. [Rev. 13:1-6.]

I've been on both sides, I made fun of my sister because she was religious, made her life hell really. But she never wavered in her belief. She's had a hard life since she was little and I don't know anyone that tried to help her out. Boys in high school constantly made fun of her. Well ,she still doesn't have an easy life but she's happy most of time. She doesn't hold my actions when we were younger against me, which I certainly would have. She doesn't have a lot but she always has everything she needs, as she says often, the Lord is so good to me, she's content, happy, and all her kids love and respect her. Now I've finally started going to church, and I finally know the feeling she has had all these years, I worry less, I feel I'm not trying to do everything alone and it's a great feeling. I'm not a religious fanatic, but more things are going my way then ever before, and I feel at peace.I just don't feel alone anymore and I no longer worry about noone caring for me, I know the Lord does.

Christians HAVE to be confident in their religion. With no evidence, all you can have is confidence that you are right, when your confidence wains, you are sinning - but god makes room for doubting Thomas- PLEASE! such a fantastic get out clause- holding on to people right until the moment the moment they understand the lies they have been taught from early childhood.

Because we know God. Its like your confidence that you have a mother and a father. If someone cam up to you and told you you didn't, you wouldn't believe them...because you know them. Its like that with God. Its difficult to put into words, but any Christian will relate completely to what I'm talking about. You just know it to be true, and would be willing to die for that belief.

All religions are soooo confident in themselves. They've been brain-washed/indoctrinated since before they could read. It's one of the better reasons to reject them all.

Listen to what Jesus said. Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor. Jesus taught that God loved the world and wanted to redeem us from our sinful life. Jesus offered salvation to all -- regardless of who we are and what we have done. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
