Yes, neutering may help, but it may not be the total solution.

Dogs on leash sometimes feel threatened when another dog approaches because they feel that they can't get away (dogs tied up or chained up will often do the same thing). Be aware of your own body language when another dog approaches. Tightening up on the leash or tensing up may cause your dog to think he needs to be aggressive. Obedience training with a trainer that has experience with this issue and uses gentle methods should help with this problem, especially if your dog is otherwise friendly to other dogs.

Getting your pet neutered is an excellent decision but the only thing it will do is prevent him from running off to find a female in heat.
First, check your leash handling. Do you pull back on him when you are approaching another dog? If so, you are raising his height and forcing him to offer challenge to the oncoming dog. Try relaxing. If you see a dog coming choose one of these two exercises. Put him in a sit at the edge of the pathway, so that the other dog can pass. Or put him on a short leash and walk very rapidly past the other dog without giving him time to think about play, just keep up to you.

Now go and find a reputable local obedience school and sign up for obedience lessons so that you can be assured that your dog will obey your commands when you give them.
If you sign up for a group class, your dog will be among others with similar problems and seeing so many dogs on a regular basis can actually make the event of meeting other dogs less stimulating to him.

My shepherd is the same way, if shes off the leash shes fine with other dogs but when she is on the leash she wants to kill other dogs, maybe its a defect with the breed.

My dog kind of does that too, shes a very good dog, but when shes on a leash she gets a little out of control when dogs come up. I think they just don't feel safe. Just try to yell at him whenever he does it and maybe even take a treat out with you so when he tries to be aggressive, show him the treat to keep him away. We tried that with my dog and it kind of worked, it might work better with yours.

yea getting him neutered will definitely help! It could also be that when he is on the leash he fells like he has to protect you. You might want to contact a trainer to see what they say will help, and how to calm him down when he gets aggressive. But like I said getting him neutered will help with the aggression, cut down the chances of him getting cancers. Its just a good thing to do!

three possibilities:
1. tell him you will neuter him if he continues to act aggressively. he will suddenly become meek.
2. call him kitty. it will confuse him, and he will stop his aggression.
3. seriously, use a shock collar. the moment he becomes aggressive, shock him. sounds cruel, but it works.
