I'm for it If it would get my kitty to stop sleeping on my laptop everyday...she digs the warmth my computer generates. Crazy cat!

Absolutely! And I wish they'd had building codes in England in 1825 when our house was built and that the 8" requirement had been one of them - and so do our cats.....

We put little tables by the windows to compensate for the lack of sills, so they can sunbathe, rubber-neck at whatever is going on outside and make Hannibal Lecter noises at the birds they can't (thank goodness) get at.

We have only ONE windowsill in the whole of a pretty large house. (Well, there may possibly have been more originally but if so I suspect some pesky Victorians removed them.) So as well as the cats having to put up with second rate "penking" accommodation ("penking" is Yorkshire for being d***n inquisitive!) we also have to sacrifice a side table to our geraniums when we bring them in for the winter.

Btw we wear fringes to hide the word, "mug", written across both our foreheads!

I don't think building codes should *require* 8" windowsills, but I think you may have identified a specialty market for homebuilders.

I have three cats who love to sit in our windows, so they would appreciate a minimum of 2 "Cat-Sills." Having these would eliminate the need for some of the unsightly cat trees I have -- especially one in the main living area. I like your idea.

Yes, I think that would be reasonable. Howeer, you can expand the windowsills yourself to 8 inches. Lots of plans for doing that (including non-permanent for apartment dwellers) on the internet.

I think it's a great thing to have because even though I don't own cats, I like plants and that would be a great place to grow window plants. But whenever they say "there oughta be a law," I'm skeptical. There are other ways to get perks like that.

Nah, that's what they make kitty condo towers or those window sill attachment shelves for. :)
