I have trouble remembering the words I want to use. This has been going on for a few years, but seems to be getting worse. I was just trying to offer somebody some soup - and I couldn't remember the word "minestrone" to tell them what kind it was. The other day - a child was telling me that they were going to do a biopsy on a dead body. I told them that biopsy wasn't the right word for it - but I couldn't think of the right word. I couldn't think of autopsy. I KNOW these words - and have used them often

This happens daily. Sometimes it's more than a few times a day. I'm only 50. What's going on?

Oh, Lord, that happens to me tons and I'm 39. It's so frustrating because I have a bigger vocabulary than most of the people I know and yet I can't always access it! What's the point in knowing the words if you can't get them to come out?! You are not alone, honey!!! Sometimes I think it's because I am preoccupied by normal worries like money and family and sometimes I wonder if it's because I'm just not getting enough sleep. I have heard that one of the best things you can do to keep your mind sharp is to read a lot. I read often. Even so, I still can't pull words out of my head sometimes. Do you also lose your train of thought in the middle of a conversation? Happens to me quite a bit. I have a pretty decent IQ and I'll bet you do too. Just know you are not alone and try to have a sense of humor about it. Not much else you can do.... = )

Wow...I'm only 22 and that happens to me all the time too. I don't think it's a malfunction...our brains are just so overloaded these days (especially with useless info/words) that it might actually be harder to grab the word that we know and since you don't use it that often it might be difficult. You are not malfunctioning but if it gets to be where you are tired of it...maybe talk to a professional about it.

I'm 50, also. There's nothing wrong with you. You are just trying to hard, pushing yourself so hard to remember that you block the memory. Just lighten up a little. Did you notice that when you stopped TRYING to remember that you then remembered the words?

I would talk to a doctor to make sure it is nothing major. but it is probably because you have a lot going on that it can make one forgetful. If it is really a big problem see a doctor. If not try memory tricks. Other than that take care of yourself.

Fuzzy or foggy thinking and memory problems can be a sign of either a hormone imbalance or hypoglycemia.
Check your symptoms for both:
