surely there are enough mosque around London to cater for the people visiting when 2012 arrives, why waste tax payers money for something which is likely never to be used after the event.

It's lovely to have the games here but the price of building seems to be going up and up, sometimes I wonder if it will all be worth it, when the games end.

Lets hope it is.

No it will be of no benefit to most Londoners and why does it need to be such an enormous show-place and advertisement...bigger even than St Paul's and all helped along with state funding???...If it wasn't using tax-payers money perhaps it would be less objectionable but even still mosques look out of place in UK and do not seem to pay any heed to the vernacular styles of surrounding architecture making them stick out like a sore thumb. How about an atheist meeting house for £100 million.paid by the taxpayer..how likely would that be?

No! Don't build a Mosque. Don't build a church, a tabernacle or temple. Build athletic event venues let each faith deal with where to worship.

I do not think this should happen because I just can not see what a mosque would have to do with the Olympics.

No, religion takes up too much of our time, energy and money when there are so many other issues that need taking care of. Give the money to a good cause!
We should not build anymore religious sites. we need schools, clinics and parks.

The proposed mosque isn't funded with public money, and isn't associated with the Olympics in any way, the site is just nearby. This is just more right wing hysteria from the Standard.

I don't see how they would even consider spending that much money on an event that lasts two weeks? What would they do with it afterwards? Turn it into a church? pub?
